Require proof of vaccination for all afterschool activities not just sports teams

Sure. That makes sense. When it’s the vaccinated athletes spreading Covid through my kids’ high school.

Yes, yes, and yes. Vaccinations for all MCPS staff and all students. If it’s been 6 months - a booster.

Vaccinations are the key for in person learning and all after school activities.

It has become more than clear that vaccines are not going to be our way out of Covid. Despite what Fauci and Pfizer have been telling you.

The 100% vaccinated athletes are the ones catching and transmitting Covid and causing these outbreaks at school. Not the unvaccinated 5 year olds. You could vaccinate every kid in MoCo and we would still be dealing with the same issues.

And yet, by far those suffering the most from Covid are the unvaxxed.

There's an outstanding explanation of base rate bias in this tweet thread from the Baltimore City Health Department. With gifs!

Nothing there really applies to our kids. The risk for a 7 year old is much different than the risk to a 67 year old. And it is reasonable to take that into consideration.

Which is why anyone pushing for a vaccine mandate for kids is in the wrong.

It applies to comments like "it's the vaccinated athletes spreading covid through my kids' high school".

Now, if you think that the risk of the vaccine is greater for your 7-year-old than the risk of the vaccine-preventable disease, I really don't know what to tell you, other than that you should prepare yourself for the possibility of a vaccine requirement.

The ECAs that require several afternoons weekly of mandatory participation (I'm thinking being in the cast of a theatre production, which usually requires near-daily rehearsals but I'm sure there are others) should absolutely require vaccination.

Once-a-week, drop-in activities... maybe not.

Lol. How can you pretend that the Covid vax is necessary for a 7 year old with any amount of certainty? Even the FDA made some comments regarding that not being true. And there are plenty of experts here in the US saying that it is debatable. Other countries have come out and just decided not to vaccinate kids under age 12. You know, places that actually consider what is best for our kids and not just places that do what is best for Pfizer’s bottom line.

Get back to me in 2 years when we have more data.

Just like the sports teams. Seems this would be a way for MCPS to allow kids to continue to perform (choral, instrumental, dance, theatre, etc.) and play (indoor and outdoor sports clubs) not just the verified group of team sports.

OP here. Wow, as in typical DCUM fashion, comments are off topic and while interesting do not address the original post copied above.

Return to school is around the corner. Decisions need to be made for post 1/7 after school activities. I sure hope MCPS decides to allow kids, in particular vaccinated HS (yes, vaccinated as those who are vaccinated typically have mild symptoms, if any) to participate in person in after school activities (clubs, theatre, etc) and not limit to only organized sports.
