Require proof of vaccination for all afterschool activities not just sports teams

Just like the sports teams. Seems this would be a way for MCPS to allow kids to continue to perform (choral, instrumental, dance, theatre, etc.) and play (indoor and outdoor sports clubs) not just the verified group of team sports.

I’d like to know the logic for not requiring it so far.

Because kids can still catch and transmit Covid even after being vaccinated.

Kids are low risk for Covid. Whether parents choose to vaccinate their kids vaccinated or not, will not make a big difference from a public health standpoint.

ZERO kids have died of Covid during this pandemic. Pushing a EUA shot on 7 year olds for no good reason is a terrible idea.

Zero kids died in MoCo but they have died of Covid. Stop minimizing covid.

This vaccine doesn't have full approval. Parents choice.

If a system needs to be created to ensure all can participate, then they need to do that. More actions are likely to come and this needs to be addressed.

Finally, get used to breakthrough infections occurring. If you or your kid(s) are not fully vaccinated, please get it done.

Yes, yes, and yes. Vaccinations for all MCPS staff and all students. If it’s been 6 months - a booster.

Those who don’t want to vaccinate should learn virtually.

Kind of like the shots. More doses, more money. More boosters, more money. So what if they only help for 3 months. Just keep boosting people! There is money to be made!!

Nobody is trying to minimize Covid. It is a matter of recognizing that Covid is less dangerous for kids versus the elderly.

But I do agree. Parents choice with this shot, for sure! No mandates for our kids.

Canceling activities at school after school was silly as they are in school all day. Sports should not be having games, just practices but this is MCPS.

You are minimizing it. Kids bring home covid to their families. Siblings bring it to siblings so they spread it to different schools. Its a chain reaction. So, give it to parents, siblings, friends, relatives, community and elderly. So, saying it is less serious to kids is silly as if they have a parent or grandparent die because they brought it home, that could greatly damage their life and mental health. Kids aren't living alone. Its about our community.

Boostering with the same shot makes zero sense to me with the mutations but people have to feel like they are doing something as they feel powerless.

I agree. And some are arguing that there could be a possibility that just boosting over and over with the same shot could make things worse. I’ll hold out until we get a more specific booster for the variant.

https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/omicron-variant-best-strategy-omicron-boost-original-vaccine-rcna7451

From the article:
“The question is, if you keep priming and boosting with a strain, which is basically to make an immune response against the ancestral strain, will that limit your ability then to make an immune response to a virus, which is very much different than the ancestral?” said Dr. Paul Offit, a vaccine expert at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Oh, you did your own research? Smart!

DP

Oh, you’re making health decisions based solely on studies done by Pfizer? Even smarter!

Show us the independent studies (not from Pfizer) that say boosters are necessary for kids age 12. Not a single one out there.

It has become more than clear that vaccines are not going to be our way out of Covid. Despite what Fauci and Pfizer have been telling you.

The 100% vaccinated athletes are the ones catching and transmitting Covid and causing these outbreaks at school. Not the unvaccinated 5 year olds. You could vaccinate every kid in MoCo and we would still be dealing with the same issues.
