Then why did _all_ MCPS principals vote in favor of SROs?

Because they are there. On the ground. Jawando and Huckler are miles away and wouldn’t be be caught dead in a public school. The principals know how valuaySROs are. The liberal morons have no clue.

Jawa dos kids are in an expensive private school. He does not care about safety or improving mcps.

This. Jawando is a hypocrite. Just remember the people on the current county council and their track record. What have they done for the good of the county? These are the same people who succeeded in making MCPS students less safe. They only care about themselves and their pet projects. Do we really trust them?

+1. I’m always grateful to know others see the council for what it really is. I watched the virtual meetings about SROs. I was blown away by how biased these meetings were. Anecdotes… not data. I’ve only seen one statistic: 100% of principals wanted SROs to remain.

You keep posting this and ignoring the data they did consider, so I'm not going to bother posting it again. An opinion poll of principals just shows they like that the police is there to deal with school discipline so they don't have to.

I watched the meetings. I saw the “data.” I read this entire thread. The council’s argument simply wasn’t convincing. You don’t need to post anything again. Also, the opinions of principals are valuable; they know the role of the SRO and how the SROs interact with the community. Why was the council so quick to discredit them? You suggest the principals only want SROs so they don’t have to deal with student discipline. That’s merely your opinion and also doesn’t contain any facts.

Principles do not really know what SROs are doing because they only put their best face forward for principals.

Are they wearing video all day that principals review?

To be able to not take responsibility for incidents. It's a police matter.

In MCPS, SROs were not causing any problems either. Instead, SROs were helpful in creating trust between students and police. They were helpful in resolving many issues without unnecessary escalation.

I think we need SROs back and we also need metal detectors at doors and more CCTV monitoring in schools. If MCPS does not have the funds for it, maybe the funds can be donated from other non-MCPS sources.

I think that this belief is actually part of the problem. Is bad policing as big a problem in MPCD as in other police forces in other places in the US? No. Is bad policing a problem in MCPD? Yes.

MCPD's position has basically been, "We're not as bad as those other police forces, so stop yelling at us, it makes us feel sad." But that's not good enough.

Also, no, we don't need metal detectors at doors. Schools are not prisons.

Actually, I feel it is opposite. Police brutality in MCPD is not an issue, rather, as a citizen I feel that police wants to be more benevolent and not tough on crime. In any case, inside the schools, SROs were a force of good.

It is ridiculous to equate metal detectors at doors with prisons. We do not want ANYONE to come inside a school to harm students. To make schools safe and for the peace of mind of students and parents it is important that schools have metal detectors and CCTV. If we are trusting our children to go to the school to study, the school needs to make sure that they are doing everything to protect our children inside the school.

The only people who will disagree with this are criminals themselves or perhaps who have raised psychopathic criminal children.

My family are MCPD and there is police brutality and racial profiling. So yes I disagree with you and am not a criminal. My one family member had an FTO explain how to legally beat somebody… you know if you just need to blow off some steam.

It may not be an issue FOR YOU. But it is an issue.

That’s because the pro -SRO crowd fails to say that cops are required to be close to the school just not in it.

Where was the cop parked during the Churchill knife incident that it took him 15 minutes to get there, Tysons?

Know your facts- The officer was at Churchill in 3 minutes- possibly even less. There is audio of the exact amount of time it took. Ask the police for the official time it ook. Also, know your facts- there was no knife fight. Also, know the facts that the person who brought the knife on school property had a mental illness. Also, know the facts that the Churchill staff had that person with the knife surrounded as soon as the incident happened. Also, know the fact that the incident happened outside of the school- not in the school. Also, know the facts that the school went on lockdown right away out of an abundance of precaution because student safety matters to educators. Also, know that the officer was not at Tysons he was Cabin John- a mile away. Facts matter!

You can state whatever you'd like in response to this post but anything other than the above will not be the facts.

Read your facts. In three minutes someone could be killed. Everything you posted is a big deal.

So if an SRO was near the track it would take more than 3 minutes to get to the knife incident, so STOs are useless.

Indeed. High schools are big - 30 to 50 acres. SROs can't cover all of them all the time.

Over 2,800 people have already signed the petition. This alone should send a message to the County Council how out of touch they are.

I'd sign it but look at who the organizer is.

So, we need 4-6 SRO's per school.

O-M-G 2,800 people? In a county of over 1,000 000 people!
Yeah, that definitely sends a message to the CC. They're probably shit$#& in their pants right now.

It's not clear why this poster is so into paying SROs since they have never done much of anything. I mean the county seems to be doing just fine without them.

Given school violence is up and we got rid of SRO's that says they clearly did something.

We've had multiple incidents at the "good" schools so that doesn't raise any concern for you?
