Recently, there are a number of local and nation wide violence attacks against students. Here are two quick examples.

It sounds the time to put our student safety first.

Thanks,

I support Elirch and Jawando. They seem to be handling these things fine without the prison guards at school.

Bring back SROs. Too many idiot kids bringing knives and ammo to schools. Not the environment where I feel safe sending my kids. And while we are at it, vote out people who made the dumb decision to defund SROs in the first place.

This council will never do it. You have to vote them out. This council and the few before have killed a once great place to live.

Sounds that both of you are hungry for blood in schools. Hiking homicides in big cities demonstrated what will happen in a dense community w/o sufficient law enforcement. It is a pity that most of MC and MCPS leaders do not live in the communities with high crime rates nor attend a high school. Complete senseless.

Actually, I think it's a good thing that most MC and MCPS leaders don't attend a high school.

Cops don't stop crime in schools. If you want fast response put them in the parking lots waiting for a call.

Without the fear mongering of a local headline, can we actually see the data on the effectiveness of SROs? Being reactionary is unhelpful.

I used to teach in a DCPS school that most DCUM posters would never consider. We had SROs. While the officers at our school seemed to be perfectly nice individuals, in my experience, I did not find them helpful in most situations. They seemed to turn up the temperature in situations that could have been diffused and were often unhelpful or unavailable when they were actually needed. Those were situations where someone got into the building who should not have etc. Many of my colleagues who were teaching in similar schools had the same opinion.

Having no SROs, but a better managed system for access to the building would have been the best course of action for my school. For example - ensuring that doors were shut fully and a better vetting system for access (instead of an overworked front desk worker buzzing anyone in because they are handling a dozen other things at same time).

I think it's good that the police have to be called to come to the schools now, so we can get some arrests, not this SRO crap.

Interesting. Just came across this piece.

"The 25 homicides recorded so far this year in Montgomery County already exceed last year’s total – 19 – by 32%."

If you believe that you are way out of touch and never chose to learn what an SRO does. They don’t patrol the hallways looking for someone to arrest. The best practice is to be visible during the change of classes and at lunch. It doesn’t take long before students build up a relationship with the officer. They tell him things that they’d never tell a staff member.

Is that a joke? Do you have kids in MCPS? Are you paying attention to what is going on?

Jawando and Elrich are terrible.
