I don't "hate" ND, but I do think the boosters are over the top. Lots of my family went there and have nephews and nieces there now. It's a good school with a lot of spirit. But it's still not in the Ivy category. |
| Notre Dame is not what you all refer to as HYPSM or whatever. But it’s close enough to the lessers Ivies that going to one of them over ND is not a no-brainer. |
I don't think any here said ND was in ivy category. Is ND a school with prestige? Yes. Is it an ivy? No...their sports teams do not play in the ivy league. In fact, I would further say the sports at ND are significantly better, making it not only rigorous, but a fun place to be. Can't say that about many of the ivies. Go Irish! |
Got it, you sound like the mouth breather in the family that couldn't get in, seems like your entire family minus you and your kids got in. Nice self-own even though you're too stupid to realize it. I can't stand ND but idiots like you are just easy to disparage. Just accept your place in life, imagine it wasn't even a top 50 but you're OK little anonymous poster. |
Wow, pretty touchy. I went to my state's flagship(Michigan) for a lot less money, had no interest in applying to ND and have a PhD (from an Ivy), but you can believe whatever you like if it suits your narrative. My eldest is at UVA and don't know where my second will go as they are only a sophomore in HS, but ND wasn't on our list at all. My family that goes to ND all live in the Midwest and are practicing Catholics. I am not a practicing Catholic nor are my kids. Nor do they have much interest in going to school in the Midwest--not even my alma mater. Like I said, nothing against ND--except that sometimes the boosters--which you showed nicely--are a bit...much. |
| It’s so obvious you weird tiger moms who romantize (and obsess over) the Ivies have never been to them, let alone attended any of them — and certainly not in 2021. They’re full of pushy annoying obnoxious cutthroat and conniving strivers — hardly an ideal setting for a normal clean cut overachievers with deep Catholic faith and values. Notre Dame is the ideal ethos. |
Ah, I get it now. You're trying to sound so bizarre so it will turn off other potential applicants to ND. Okay enough strategy, I guess. |

Let’s be real here. You’re not gonna find a Michigan grad who praises ND. You have to take the Michigan grad with a grain of salt.
One of my kids turned down ND for UVA in state. I think it made a lot of sense money-wise, but I’m not going to say that UVA is a better school. It isn’t. |
Thanks for your opinion. |
You're giving me a bit of whiplash here --I say ND is a "good school with a lot of spirit" and that's what you call bashing? Worthy of calling me "too stupid" and a "mouth breather" etc and making assumptions about where my kids and I went to school. But then also "I wish you the best" and Go Hoos! Maybe a little too much pre-gaming?? Whew. I wish you the best too. |
| Other than Stanford, ND offers the best combination of top-notch academics, all around excellence in athletics (not just football) and alumni networking. It also has one of the largest endowments in the country, more than half the Ivies and nearly 10 times Georgetown’s. These are facts, not hyperbole. |
By what objective measure is UVA better? |
ND. Well, for starters UVA sends more Rhodes, Marshall and Fulbrights overseas than ND by far. Ask anyone at Oxford. |
Duke, Vandy, and Michigan all disagree (and the Stanford, Vandy, and Michigan alumni and parents aren't even predominantly insufferable). |
