To the woman in Michaels at seven corners who told their daughter to grab your purse

Anonymous
The woman was definitely rude, and probably racist but not because she grabbed the bag, but because she didn’t move the cart for you. She grabbed the bag because she probably caught became aware when you approached her how close you were to the cart and the bag and she hadn’t noticed you until you spoke to her. So anyone could have just grabbed the bag, and she wouldn’t have been the wiser.

Funny thing is, I'm part Asian.

I had someone tell me how pushy Indians are and how they don't respect rules/order. It was fun telling them I'm half Indian (though I don't look it - that's a whole other moronic assumption).

She was far away; her daughter came and took the cart. I gave her a chance to realize her misstep and apologize. She didn’t.

Oh man, OP, I'm really sorry. This lady is a fking b itch and I hate her for you.

My non racist mom does this. Once you’ve been robbed and had someone steal your purse, you’re anxious for the rest of your life.

Well, op, if they were far from the cart and the purse was IN the cart, of course she’s going to tell her daughter to grab the purse.

Who leaves their purse in a cart and is far? Of course she’d realize that she needs to keep her purse with wallet, credit cards, and driver license, insurance cards, and who knows what other documents close to her. Not because you appeared, but because your appearance and calling her out on the card, made her realize how stupid she was to leave her purse behind. Anyway, I am not defending the woman. She was wrong, but her reaction of sending her daughter to bring the purse closer is natural to me - someone who holds close to my purse when I put irrespective where.

Agree. I go there because I am comfortable with so
many Hispanics and Middle Easterners at the mall.

This hurt to read. I’m sorry people suck, Op.

I mean I agree OP but not sure what brands have to do with anything. If you were wearing old navy and target (like I do) you still don’t deserve racial profiling. And you aren’t better than another person not wearing fancy brands.

OP here - totally agree. But folks like to make excuses for why these things happen, i.e., racial profiling and police brutality. You can be a highly educated, well off person, and still be seen as less than, when really, she really has no right to think I could ever want to steal her purse… if she actually saw me.

So she didn't scoot her cart to let you pass so you were blocked from passing then she just took her purse to shop at another aisle? She was rude but I don't see how taking her purse with her was racist. Was she supposed to trust you besides your race?

There has been times where I went further from my cart than i was realizing, had a moment of panic and asked my kid to grab my purse/the cart. I don't think the words alone scream racism.

Sounds like she deliberately wanted to hurt you, probably because you asked her to move.

There are some nasty, broken people out there. I'm sorry this happened to you.

Not OP. The woman far from the cart and sent her daughter to get the cart. So they did move the cart. OP’s objection is that the woman didn’t say to her daughter: “go move the cart” but said “go get [or grab] the purse”. The daughter took the cart and the purse.

This is what op wrote: “ She was far away; her daughter came and took the cart. I gave her a chance to realize her misstep and apologize. She didn’t.”
