To the woman in Michaels at seven corners who told their daughter to grab your purse

Anonymous
I’m sorry OP! People suck.

On another note: are people already Xmas shopping?!

I don't know why she felt the need to do this.

That said, I didn't let it ruin my day.

No, she was right. Lots of people get their bags stolen at the grocery store. It’s a thing.

Yep, there are criminals that specifically target bags left in carts at grocery stores, target etc.

It happens literally anywhere that someone leaves their purse in a cart and then walks away from it.

If she's scared of POC she should be in the Hobby Lobby in Leesburg.

I'm scared of the people who shop at Hobby Lobby...

She was wearing Croc flats. She already sucks and her feet are probably very smelly.

Sadly, she reproduced and is now passing her implicit bias on to the next generation.

I asked if you could scoot your cart out of the way as I approached. I saw you look at my face, make a quick calculation, and tell your daughter to grab your purse. Not grab the cart, but grab your purse (that was in the cart). You didn't notice that I was wearing boden, northface, and brooks, just like your family, or that I had high end glasses. All you saw was the color of my skin. And when I told you, I didn't want anything out of your purse, I'm just here to shop, just like you, you quickly retorted, "I know," in a condescending way. So if you were wearing black croc flats, a coral coach bag, and your daughter had a fox boden sweatshirt on, yeah, I'm talking to you. You are racist and you ruined my perfectly nice day off. F. U.; you suck.

Ugh. Do not let this peiece of trash ruin your day.

Yes, according to the news, it is smart to shop early because there will be shortages of popular items. Hanukkah also comes early this year (Nov 28).

So sorry, OP. I get why you ranted. I like shopping at the Michael's at Seven Corners and it is too bad there are small-minded people who also shop there. I am mistaken for someone who works at stores all of the time. It doesn't matter that I am not wearing a store uniform or that I am dressed in a blouse and nice slacks. I am mistaken for my own children's nanny. And I am someone who has an advanced degree and earns more than DH. But don't give it a moment's thought. It is becoming a minority majority country, certainly in this area soon, and bias will continue to change, hopefully for the better.

This brought tears to your eyes? Wow, if you only knew. We POC live through this kind of stuff all.the.time!

white fragility

discomfort and defensiveness on the part of a white person when confronted by information about racial inequality and injustice.
"her indignant reaction comes off as the quintessential combination of white fragility and white privilege"

What? PP isn’t being challenged she’s not exhibiting fragility. The correct diagnosis from that book would be White Women’s Tears, although that wasn’t my favorite part of the book. If you want to be taken seriously, at least make an effort.
