We already have all this. MoCo passed $15/hr minimum wage a few years ago. Also there is both the MD and MoC earned income tax credit for low income families. |
Actually, I hope we move leftward over the next election. First of all it would be nice to not have to fight against a Republican governor. Secondly I hope we can kick the developer-funded councilmembers out. Will be nice to see Riemer and Friedson gone, those two are the worst. The only really good councilmember we have is Jawando. Elrich 200% must be re-elected. Would be great to elect someone like Brandy Brooks to the Council, and I also like Kristin Mink. There are great candidates for D2 and D4 as well. We need fewer white men on the council. Montgomery County is changing and that’s a really good thing. It doesn’t have to be all posh and white. I’d gladly kick out some of the multimillionaires if they are the ones trying to block progress for everyone else. Fewer mega rich people is fine if it means less income inequality. I’d like MoCo to be the national leader in reducing income inequality and making more progress in racial justice. If you don’t like it, you can leave. That means fewer reactionaries in the way of the rest of us in creating the kind of society we want to live in. Get the knuckledraggers out of the way and we can build a Scandinavian type system right here in America. |
Or, you could just move to California. Go right ahead. Scandinavia? You’re using Scandinavia as your goal? Such hypocrisy. Do you hate diversity? Lots of people of color in Scandinavia, right? |
You should move. We are not a socialist society. |
Sounds exactly like Biden. |

And did you have a single parent? Were you a latchkey kid? I had two working parents, but I was still a latchkey kid because they both had to work, in menial jobs, to pay the rent and buy food. I don't agree with UBI, but I have a lot of empathy for poor, struggling parents since I saw the way my parents struggled. |
In some ways, we are. The unemployment extension went way beyond what a worker/employee paid into unemployment insurance. States like KY had not problems taking the extension on it. Medicaid expansion is also a form of socialism, and again, some red states had no problems accepting it. |
Do socialist countries also allow an unmitigated inflow of undocumented immigrants? Or might they have some regulations in place to control that? |
You only make $800/mo? You’d live in a cardboard box in MoCo. |
You seem to be poisoned by conservative talk radio. I was poor. We didn’t eat fast food. My parents didn’t drink, smoke, do drugs, or gamble. Money went to rent, food, utilities, and medicine. Same for my neighbors. |
This has to be a troll post. You can’t pay for the social programs you want without tax revenue. Who’s paying in the taxes? The business sector. |
| I can't believe anyone would think a good way to address income equality, rather than working to bring up the bottom, is to get rid of the top. There is no case where if you have 10 people with a million dollar salary, and 10 with a 20,000 salary, getting rid of five of the millionaires to achieve better "income equality" makes things better. |

This program will be a disaster. No oversight on how the money will be used. daycare are many food and clothing programs so no excuse for anyone to go hungry and purchase clothing. I would rather this money fund low cost daycares since it sounds like that there are a ton of single moms with many kids working 3 jobs. Or fill some vacant government jobs and pay these people a loving wage with benefits.
At the end of the program, what happens? The money goes away and no one is better for it. It doesn't seem right to fund families where no one is working or trying to move up. |
