I saw it on evening news: Montgomery County will pay $800 per month, regardless immigration status, for two years.
Great! |
| And, where will they get the money from? More taxes. |
| Sweet! Imma quit my job. |
| Its not a real thing - its the crazy guy wanting to pretend he's doing good. Its basically 300 families and that will do more harm than good as after those two years the families will be used to the money, lose it and be in the same situation as before. Its not a good idea like he thinks. |
|
Eh, it's just a pilot program, like they have had in other places.
Hope it helps some people. I won't be voting for him in the next election; we don't need more people in MoCo who can't afford to live here. |
Actually they would get a foundation to fund about 90% of it |
Why only 90%? Should some rich folks in MC found 100%? |
| Jawando is all about policy that sounds good and nothing about understanding how to make the trains run. So tired of his rhetoric and damaging legislation. |
Have you looked to see where the foundation money comes from? The counties gives money to multiple nonprofits for these kinds of things. |
This. You need to teach folks how to manage money and make more money as what happens when the two years is up? |
| Great. When there already aren’t enough workers, people will get to buy a handle of vodka & Netflix & chill. Dumb public policy. |
This. |
Or local employers could just come up with competitive wages. Most people aren't going to drive a county over to get groceries or fast food. |
I'd love to know your plans for living off $10k in MoCo. |
Riiiiight, because $800/month is enough to live the good life in MoCo. $800 would get you a shared room in a basement. Ten years ago. However, it COULD make the difference for someone who needs to fix their car to get to a job interview, to not have to choose between utilities and groceries, or not have to ration insulin and die. |
