Is McAuliffe a progressive? I.e. is he trying to go the way of Bernie (or even Biden) with free everything? I know he was a good governor (though I only moved here at the end of his term) and the state since has been #1 of business many times. That to me is the most important thing - keep attracting new businesses and growing the state - EVEN IF that means you have to to give corporate tax breaks/incentives to get employers to come here. To me you'd think Youngkin's private equity background would be helpful here. But I'm also not interested in a covid denier who'll roll back vax mandates etc. (I assume he would since he's a Trump guy) - because part of a vibrant economy, is keeping it open.
I'm just less and less interested in the progressive policies, free money to individuals, diversity etc. (and no I'm not white) and more interested in economic growth because I think that lifts all ships (and I'm from a northern state where industry went away - I know how much people suffer then). Thoughts?
To answer your question - YES. Free everything.
NO IT WONT AFFECT YOUR RICH ASS
Was he a moderate before and now progressive because he knows that's what Dems want? Or is it all talk to get the Dem votes and then he ignores those progressive promises?
What progressive promises is he making?
Northam was a moderate but veered left after the blackface incident was revealed. McAuliffe was a moderate in his prior term, but has already veered sharply left this time because he usurped the opportunity to run for Governor as a Democrat from two Black women (Jennifer McClellan and Jennifer Carroll Foy) and now has to make amends by promising to be at least as progressive as they would have been, if elected.
His platform is very aligned with what the left-of-center Democrats want, including a chief integration officer in the state education department with a single-minded focus on pushing school districts to change school boundaries to effect demographic balancing and pushing for the construction of affordable/subsidized housing in areas with higher rated schools (although we can probably assume none of that will take place in McAuliiffe's own corner of McLean).
