To those married to a "dumb" spouse

There's no "correcting." You just have to love the things you love about them.

No, because intelligence is primarily inherited by the mother.

Wait I thought intelligence wasn’t heritable.

It’s actually highly heritable. Read “The Cult of Smart”

Wrong. Genes are a social construct to perpetuate inequality.

I'm sorry, and not to troll, but can you explain the theory on this one to me? I don't think I agree but I genuinely want to understand your position on this. You think that...nothing is passed down genetically? Like, everything is just chance? That two parents with blue eyes are just as likely to have a blue eyed kid as two parents with brown eyes all the way up their family tree?

And how does it perpetuate inequality? You mean like a bigotry of low expectations -- "oh, he won't be able to finish school, his parents are dumb and he probably gets it from them" -- or like literally a group of powerful people decided to invent the concept of genes in order to keep minorities down? How does it do that?

I did not marry my academic equal but he’s one of the smartest people I know. He had terrible grades and reminds me of that once in awhile but his ability to see the forest through the trees is uncanny as well as his business problem solving skills.

I'm "book smart," fantastic test scores, pick up languages effortlessly, love complex fiction with a lot of literary allusions and stuff. My DH can barely remember "hola" and "gracias" for our Spanish-speaking nanny, sometimes puts cups and bowls in the dishwasher right side up because he forgets that they need to be upside down (!), and reads only fantasy novels or spy stories. But he has a level of detail-oriented focus and a stamina for just getting sh!% done that I marvel at. Hearing him on conference calls with coworkers talking about technical things, I can't even imagine being able to keep up.

Like PP, I've had to realize -- and really come to love -- that comparing our academic backgrounds wouldn't even begin to tell an outsider anything meaningful about our "smarts."

Genes are not social.

Fake news.

By definition: A gene is a basic unit of heredity and a sequence of nucleotides in DNA or RNA that encodes the synthesis of a gene product, either RNA or protein.

The number of stupid people on this thread who cannot pick up on sarcasm is HILARIOUS.

My husband is much smarter than me in math but way, way dumber in anything practical. It’s kind of exhausting but I accepted it.
