All of these schools that go up or down a few spots are essentially the same schools that they were a year ago.

It was 3 last year tied with Yale, it's 2 now tied with Harvard.

It ranked higher than Yale last year, where Columbia was 3rd without any ties. Yale and MIT were tied for 4th.

Could someone explain Wake Forest to me? Their stats are so much lower than the other schools. For my kid it reads like a safety in Naviance, whereas most of the other on the list are high match and reach. I don't get this stuff.

In stead of looking at the rank you should look at the overall score. It gives more info on which schools are peers.

Maryland ranking is closer to Va Tech than it is to UVA or William and Mary. Lol.

Statistically speaking, there really isn't any difference.

Do not make any choices based on statistically speaking. If possible....visit the schools and research your student's specific area of interest. Columbia is an intensly urban environment. Fantastic for kids that thrive in a big city.

I guess we can think of that as champs, chumps or chimps depending on your point of view.

Definitely better than it was 40 years ago, when it was the least desirable of the Ivies and ranked in the teens (and it was all-male too), and undergrad is probably on par with HYPSM now (or getting marginally close). Academically, it has been producing a few Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell, Churchill, Truman, and Udall scholars per year as of late (in the past there was almost none). Athletics is on the rise and constantly winning a couple ivy championships and NCAA titles per year (esp. fencing). Beats most of the schools except HYS and Penn in terms of "Forbes 30 under 30" entrepreneurs and # of billionaires. Graduated tons of Academy/Pulitzer/Emmy/McArthur award winners just in the past 20-30 years and even Nobel Prize winners when you look at undergrad degrees alone. And recent cabinet members, federal judges, supreme court justices, Fortune 500 CEOS, you name it. Probably not on the level of HYS but definitely more so than most other schools. Also a top destination of elite prep schools. Rivals HYPSWharton in terms of finance or consulting recruiting in NY and is one of the few places where hedge funds, private equity, trading firms recruits straight out of undergrad. Ranks 3rd/4th in feeding for top law schools like YLS and HLS. Lots of celebrity offspring/rich kids that rival Y or P but also generous FA to most students and is one of the few schools outside HYP that meets 100% demonstrated need even for internationals and the undocumented. Regardless of a low alumni donation rate, still one of the top fundraisers in the country following H and S (raising between $700 mil -$1 billion on average). Building a $6 billion new campus in Manhattan. Don't know what other quantifiable metrics you can use to define "better." Probably will even get rid of the ED in favor of SCEA in the next 5 years.

Funny that you brought it up, because in certain subjects, at least in my PhD field, this was actually the acronym used 20 years ago.

Deserved.

Yes, also no 4 public in the USA. No 1 on financial aid (Princeton review) and no 1 public law school

It was #2 like forever before they started considering the pell grant stuff. Totally irrelevant, IMHO

Columbia is an amazing choice but bear in mind that if you are looking to apply early - Columbia is ED which is binding, and not EA as are HYPM. Not sure about S.

They are nowhere near as good for undergraduate study as a number of schools they are in front of. It must have to do with the boost from Pell grants.

+1. It's downright silly.

Now that UCs are test blind and most others test optional, I suppose US News will remove scores from the formula completely for whichever year class of 2025's scores would have shown up in the calculation. With UC GPAs seeming very high, I'm sure they'll rise even further in the ranking.

The UC rankings are beginning to test the credulity of the rankings.

Wait to see Oregon colleges' rankings go up as well in a few years. Students graduating out of high schools are not required to be able to read, write, or do math. Oregon colleges will try to outdo Cals.

these general rankings with all the departments all together make no sense
can someone with an account post the ranking for the undergraduate computer science?

Aren't the department/major rankings 100% based on the peer assessment survey? I'm pretty sure I read that here.
