Wuhan virus (coronavirus) arrives in the USA

My theory is that if the coronavirus originates in certain climate and area it does not fare well in not native conditions. Just like you would move polar bear to Sahara and lion to Antarctica. Not optimal comdition. MERS died fast once out of the area of origin.

You're probably correct about this.

And I think the lethality of a virus in inversely proportionate to ease of spread.

Virus is just like any other animal, just much much much smaller, I bet it has feelings too, and gets scared when you want to antiviral it. Who knows maybe one day we will find a way to communicate with them instead eradicating en masse..
Perhaps they will tell us that they have a role to play just like bacterias in the gut and all.. and will teach us coexist in peace..

And just as horses and dogs.. they get domesticated and tamed living with people. Stop being wild and ynpredictible.

Many viruses cannot survive on hard surfaces for as long when the temperature is higher. Weeks ago I saw some inital research on covid19 indicating that it would live longer on a hard surface in cold temps versus warm temps. But the ambient temp doesnt make much difference for person to person transmission. So warmer weather should help a bit, depending on how big a factor transmission from things like door handles, touch screens, etc. is.

Sounds about right. It’s about time. Buying time for humankind.

Isn’t that only for the northern hemisphere though? And with our interconnectedness, won’t people from South America, etc, be flying to the US and spreading it around?

Depends on Trump’s flight restrictions. It ain’t going away in the warner months. But maybe it can lessen.

Trump's flight restrictions wouldn't mean a thing now. Virus is already here and spreading through the US population, thanks mostly to american tourists and mishandling at the start.

And yes, they get tamed, meaning less deadly.

Oh, and UV light will kill it:

"This study showed a greater than or equal to a 99.94% reduction in Coronavirus after 45 min. and one hour exposure to UV-C irradiation. Further studies and calculations show that the time required to destroy CoV is much faster and can be achieved in as little as 15 minutes at a radius distance from the portable Helix 450XL unit of 10 feet (diameter or 20 feet)."

And as I predicted, Seattle is now concerned about their homeless population spreading it. Fun times.

Until it mutates

The poster asked about people flying in.

Not contagious until symptomatic. First symptom of SARS is a high fever.

COVID-19 is contagious before symptoms appear and initial symptom can be a mild cough.

Also this virus isn't nearly as deadly.

True. Killing a lot of your hosts isn't a great virus long-term survival strategy.

Unless they have mild symptoms for a few days to spread it around, THEN die.

Somewhat concerned.

We are supposed to have a warmer than normal spring.

Good.

Does warm weather really slow the spread? Or is this one of those myths?

Let's see how it does in FL and AZ, as opposed to cool, unsunny Washington State.

It spread through Singapore, which is high eighties every day.

Every city should be. Imagine this thing roaming through slams of Rio....
