Also how's the living situation there -- densely congested like apts in China or more single family homes etc.

Lombardy is the size of South Carolina and its the fashion capital of Italy/Europe. Very wealthy area.

Well if I'm going to be quarantined that looks pretty good.

You would be stuck inside. Unable to go to the store for groceries. It would be awful.

If you own a SFH, you can't go outside, on your own property? What about pets? I can't bring my dog into my backyard? I'm not worried about food.

At some point will they have to just temporarily stop cruises? They don't have the capicity to quarantine every ship that comes into a US port for 2 weeks. Or even a fraction of them.

Or else they have to give up on the quarantines. Its going to become logistally impossible.

I don't think the cruise lines will and I don't think the U.S. (or really - any foreign nation) has the authority to order it. Cruise ships operate according to maritime law in global jurisdictions and almost all the companies have the ships registered in foreign nations to avoid U.S. taxes.

We cancelled out summer cruise. So relieved. Took awhile to talk DH into in and all might be fine by summer, but we got a full refund.

My 91 year old grandmother said she wanted to bail on an airplane trip, and we said OK - no problem.

Lol! Pets can actually get the virus from humans too. Yes, I’m sure you can let your pet out to take a crap.

But no going anywhere to get supplies. That’s why they recommend stocking up on OTC meds, food and water. Duh.

Re the lockdown in Lombardy and 11 provinces in N Italy

I am now reading it has yet to be approved and may have changes.

But the proposal as written did not say people had to stay in their homes. Stores could be open, even restaurants provided people could keep a certain distance apart.

But very little congregating -- no amusements are open, no recreation; schools are already closed of course throughout Italy.

And no one can leave their province or city limits.

I wouldn’t be surprised if many traveling to the Caribbean or other small countries without reported cases of the virus do not permit Americans to enter their country. It would suck to be stuck in an airport.

Jamaica has already banned tourists that have been to China, Italy, Iran and South Korea within a certain time frame before travel to Jamaica.

We just canceled our plans to Tampa/Orlando. They just had 2 deaths in tampa area, and they have several people who were on that Princess Cruise. Not worth it at this point. All hotels were refundable. It's just the airfare i have to deal with.

I wonder if they will ban US people. So much of their economy is based on US tourists.

Of course they can. They US can simply close all US ports to cruise travel. The ships can do what they want, but not access the ports.

Smart. My only cruise option is to rebook and I'm not excited about that either. Still hoping for a cancellation but if it doesn't happen I guess we'll push it out as far as we can (12 months max.)
