We need massively stepped up criminal enforcement and convictions in DC

Have you considered donating to Nikki Haley's campaign? "I pick Nikki!"

It would be wonderful to have her in the White House (considering the alternatives on both sides)

I mean, after slipping in the item about the Sentencing Commission nominee now MUST be a criminal, who knows what other "adjustments" they have made? And then when Mendo chose not to identify any of the groups that had sought changes, doesn't seem to bode well.

The Council seem to have NO FEAR of consequences from dc voters which is striking.

The recall Allen effort has raised $60,000 in a very short time, that could get their attention if successful or close.

This is insane. What's next, a law requiring that every women's shelter have a convicted rapist on its board?

Given that the vote was paused due to blow back from Sentencing Commission members, public and the media, this is really an astonishing more. Their sense of impunity knows no bounds. And it was Chairman Mendelson who nominated the murderer.

The provision about judges explaining decisions not to hold seems to have been dropped as well.

They slow rolled the vote to let the activists have time for these antics.

I've been contacting my CouncilMember (Frumin) to support Secure DC. Can someone give a quick summary of what happened, where we are, and what to do? My impression is its all very 11th hour, but I'm unclear on what unfolded. Just that I probably won't like it.

I would argue the opposite. Many of DC's current problems have their origins in the collective mental meltdown the left had last time we had a Republican administration. Trump returning to office could very well lead to the city going up in flames in some sort of tantrum.

You may be right. The reaction here was to elect a bunch of woke “progressives” to the Council who passed pro-criminal legislation and cut the police budget. Even the somewhat more sober-minded mayor spent hundreds of thousands of dollars painting BLM plaza (near the White House just to spite Trump) instead of painting school crosswalks.

I think citizens should bring a lawsuit against individual council members. Mike Gill’s wife could be the lead Plaintiff.

They won’t listen until it hurts. Once they’re sued and the legal bills mount, this will never ever happen again. People who run for Councik will learn to be serious people.

He says he would immediately federalize the city and make it beautiful. A total Dictator move but I love it. Having said that he’s a massive liar so f him.

Oh do FO Charles Allen. Every time there’s a challenge to these idiots they come here pretending to be a sanguine voice of reason pointing out Allen can’t be solely to blame, deflecting to Bowser, and making normal people sound like MAGA. FO “Nikki voter”, go help some of your Ward 6 voters get bricked in the head they won’t brick themselves as much as you guilt trip them for their whiteness

This is dumb. Can I start personally suing Trump for cutting taxes on corporations?

Settlements come out of tax revenue, so, cutting off nose to spite face.

No easy, simplistic answers, even if there were viable cases.

The activist groups are in a frenzy

even CA has pulled back on the nonsense so they are doubling down in DC

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/san-francisco-s-democratic-mayor-london-breed-pushes-for-adults-to-be-screened-for-drug-addiction-before-they-can-get-700-a-month-welfare-payments-amid-city-s-spiraling-fentanyl-crisis/

Lives will be saved in CA. In DC, the dead and wounded are merely levers for grifters to wallow at the trough. The more human misery and death, the more we need dark money groups to "save us." And Breed is not falling for the "we need to implement DSA agenda FIRST" scripts either. Carrot and stick have been time tested throughout human history.

Agree.

I would love to see her elected as our Potus.

The DC council voted today on a “crime bill” which - if passed - will take baby-steps toward restoring the prior criminal Justice laws DC once had on the books..

Anyone want to bet Allen votes AGAINST the bill today?

He will vote for it, actually. He voted for it in committee in a much stronger form. He voted for her June bill without grandstanding.

It's Frumin who will pontificate and waffle today. Several provisions of the bill have significantly lessened the impact. REQUIRING that the Council nominate a criminal to the Sentencing Commission in perpetuity is beyond the pale. Dropping the provision requiring judges to note reasons for pretrial release is very disappointing. The activists do not want that number of violent predators released to be curtailed.

Not DC Council. That’s the beauty of it. They sue the mayor all the time. Personally it doesn’t matter what the outcome is — it will empty their accounts, tie up their time and end them. It has legs
