We need massively stepped up criminal enforcement and convictions in DC

There are council members who don’t think crime is even a problem.

Interesting to me that no expense was spared to track down a carjacker when the victim is an FBI agent but somehow the rest of us don't matter. There have been 100s of carjackings. And rather than dedicate resources to stop them, they decide to give out airtags instead. So what? So citizens can be vigilantes and track down their own cars and confront violent criminals. Another person on another thread told a story about how she contacted the cops when her car was stolen and watched with them as they tracked the car moving around the city but the cops refused to do anything. what the hell?

agree, OP. sadly, the answer will soon be vigilante justice. tax-paying citizens who are scared and worn down and pissed will end up killing criminals. I'm waiting for the vigilantes who will start destroying all the traffic cameras.

Janeese Lewis George opposes anything and everything when it comes to cracking down on crime. She’s up for re-election in the spring. Throw her out.

Vote republican in the presidential election

You are an idiot if you think the Republicans will lift a finger to help DC. In fact, it would be the opposite. They are all-in on their nonsense "blue cities are cesspools" narrative and it's playing well with their brain dead base. They'll put in even less effective prosecutors and loosen gun laws even more to pump up the crime stats so they can point to DC and say "see how bad this blue city is!" knowing that their voters are too dumb to understand how DC's prosecutorial system works.

They’re not allowed to chase. You voted for the people who implemented that.

This would be a good start and send a message to the rest of the Council.

We simply cannot live with the carjackings, property crimes, shootings, and chaos with no consequences for the perpetrators.

Who in local politics can make this happen?

Doing what you propose in your subject line would result in many more African-American males behind bars.

And that is racist.

Full stop. Never gonna happen.

DC crime will get much, much worse before it gets better.

If the shoe fits......which it does.

Pretty sure there was no "chase" of the 17 year-old who stole the FBI's vehicle. They investigated and collected evidence.

So to answer the question not being addressed by anyone: yes, probably 60% of MPD is refusing to do their job. The Mayor and the Council don't say anything because they are worried the remaining 40% will stop doing their job, as well. There needs to be a change in culture at MPD and the USAO's office.

I was responding to the PP and the now infamous Washington Post story of the carjacked being tracked.

The Council and DC juries have made it very clear they do not want a muscular, aggressive police force.

DC needs a youth curfew that is enforced, like PG. And to start charging juveniles who are repeat or violent offenders as adults, which I notice MoCo is now doing, especially with age 16+.

Who, pray tell, will enforce it?

Not MPD.
