Good old wrap around services. The tired line that activists trot out as a panacea for everything, even when parents really should be watching over their kids to ensure they don’t car jack people. Or “programs!!!l “ we need more programs!!! What about just good old accountability? So much passing on responsibility. I guess it’s just easier to complain. |
Dude, you are missing the part that those words trigger $$$ that grifters hoover up with little to NO oversight or accountability. Caaaa-ching! |
Yep. Especially in DC---where the bureaucrats in charge of passing out the money have a friend, sister, significant other etc. who sets up a non-profit and then spends all the grant money on "overhead". The problem is that "wrap around services" that would actually help people climb out of poverty, e.g., government subsidized child care--would be a lot more popular if they were a generally available government benefit like in Western Europe. In general, government programs that also benefit a wide swath of the middle class are a lot easier for people to embrace. |

Just heard about this awful story - little girl killed was a student at a DC charter school, shot in PG by her stepfather who had a prior DV conviction Apparently DC arrested the stepfather for making threats but let him go. Two weeks later, little girl is dead.

Some things should just be automatic. Engage in domestic violence and you lose the right to own guns. Threaten someone and you lose the right to own guns. Road rage and you lose the right to own guns. Any of those kinds of signs that you can't control yourself, and you lose the right to own guns. |
| Catch those teens and make them an example for other teens by making them cleaners in their own schools and in dog kennels on weekends until they learn to work hard to earn what they want instead of robbing others. |
| Any discussion of this that doesn’t include the crippling role played by DC courts is incomplete. |
Also juvenile enforcement. DC AG released zero data but half of all carjacking arrests are juveniles. It would be important to know how much the DC AG’s prosecutorial decisions contribute to crime in a city where so many criminals are juveniles. |
