You are remembering incorrectly. Fall 2016 was the initial season for Bethesda South 2006. Three kids left at the end of the fall season for various reasons, but it wasn't a mass exodus. Blue Team was a finalist at Alexandria this spring in top flight and played in the top bracket at EDP Cup with good results, so the spring was pretty successful. A few kids are leaving now at the end of the season to go to DA Clubs, but most of the team is staying intact. Some additional strong players are coming in. The team may not be the powerhouse it was in fall, but coaching is outstanding and the team will play fast and the kids will develop. It is a great place for a player who wants to get better and play at a high level.

I thought Bethesda was a DA club?

Bethesda is a DA club. The topic is about Bethesda-South which trains in the Great Falls/Tyson's area. They do not have a 05 team.

So quick question, I understand that the coach is leaving after this upcoming season. What happens to Bethesda South afterwards?

Where is he going?

Is this Yuri?

I'm not sure bu my guess would be that his son would join a DA. His older son plays for Bethesda DA. I guess he'd try to get some work there. Just speculation though.

Yes, that is who the PPs are talking about. Interesting to see how that all plays out.

FYI,

SYA is hosting tryouts to their U8 Academy this weekend. If you live in the Chantilly/Centreville/Burke/Fairfax/Loudoun South area you may be interested.

June 4th Sunday, Sports Park #4
Boys - 1.00-2.00pm
Girls - 2.30-3.30pm

I've had 3 kids go through the program and all have enjoyed their experience.

They killed us 8-1 after killing other teams 11-0 and 9-1. What the hell, dude? Don't seed yourself against much lower teams - the tournament win is meaningless. We were really annoyed and might not do the Virginian next year if they allow this BS.

They all sandbag to get into lower divisions. This should be a no brainer, if you are the club's 1st team then you should play against other club's 1st team. I see this crap all the time, when you see a 3rd team play against another club's 1st team. I agree with you, they do it for the swag. Our 1st team always compete at the top level and although we don't always win, it's always a good tournament.

So you are saying that a u9 team intentionally loses games so they can win the third bracket at the Virginian? The team you are accusing of sand bagging had asked to be placed in the second bracket. The tournament placed them in the third. If you had seen this team earlier in the year - you would have agreed that the second bracket was appropriate. The parents on that team were not thrilled with the placement either.

I posted the first response, I was referring to the tactic of teams registering for lower brackets to gain an advantage. Does not always work out, but we play in a league where we know exactly what levels the teams are at and when we see our league competition play against our 2nd or 3rd team, it's comical at best.

PAC has only given existing player offers out, then they will see where they have spots. They had a huge group of new 06s this year and are adding a 3rd team.

Not true. My son is new to PAC and got an offer and I known of at least 3 other new players who've received offers as well this week.

agree. PAC did get some new offers out already b/c they knew kids would want to hear sooner vs later.

Do you know if PAC will make more offers? My DC has been trying out, but didn't get an offer. I thought I heard even if they don't offer your kid a spot on the team, they can still train with the team?

They might not be done. We're a returning family, and we didn't get our offer until Tuesday.

As good as the training is, I'm not sure I'd recommend going to PAC just to train and not play. Maybe if you're also playing rec league so you can get a few games in. (You can't play rec league elsewhere and play travel at PAC, of course, but if you're just *training* at PAC and not officially rostered to a team, I can't imagine you'd be barred from playing rec league.)

true - at some age groups they are still sorting out how many teams they are going to have. I can't speak to specific age groups and your individual situation though. In terms of training - yes you can train with them regardless of whether you play on a team. I am not sure why your child could not also play on a rec team? You would have to investigate the rules for your rec club specifically to determine if they permit travel players and how many. I know Arlington Rec does allow a few travel players per rec team (the number varies by age).

PAC's offer letter specifically prohibits playing rec soccer. But again, that's for a rostered player. If you're just training with them, I can't imagine they'd object.

Arlington is the exception rather than the rule. Most clubs put a brick wall between rec and travel. (Which stinks.)

Whatever happened to Cugini? SoccerWire raved about their playing style years ago, and now they only seem to field a couple of teams that get destroyed in league play.

It's hard to survive as a small club when there are so many large clubs in our area that can provide better options for players and coaches.

BRYC is one of the smallest clubs around and has multiple teams competing at the highest levels in USYS

Interesting. I thought I had read on this board that a lot of 2006 boys had left Bethesda South and I remember several people posting that they had received unsolicited phone calls from people there inquiring about their current status.

I guess it was only 3 people - and coincidentally around that same number got calls.

I'm glad for Yuri. He's a really good coach and a nice guy. I hope he has success wherever he ends up.

BRYC would be considered a mid size club not small. They field teams in each age group. They have large Rec program.

They're also one of the historical powers in the region. Just a bit of a headstart on the others.

Re Bethesda South '06, that is talented group of kids with a great coach. For what its worth their A team is ranked #1 in VA and B team made up largely of '07 kids is #7. To the chagrin of some clubs, Bethesda has managed to establish a beachhead in NOVA and pull talent from local teams.

From what I recollect, there were many former Joga kids as well that moved there last year.

That is true; there was a group of several kids who trained with Joga that went there. There were also several kids from McLean. The current version of the team is small, but very fast and they play a style that is pleasing to watch. I heard from a reputable source that the team was still giving offers this week.

The best 06 Boys teams I saw this year in Northern VA were Arlington Red, Bethesda South and McLean Green. Alexandria Red, Loudoun Red and Chantilly Purple were also very good. Yes, I spend too much time at soccer fields.

Also at least 6 FPYC kids ...Though some have left. ...To add to your list: SYC's top 06 team is excellent. I'd say better than Arl, Alex, and Chantilly.
