why do people care if Kate Middleton wants to be a SAHM?

Anonymous
She announced that she's taking a long maternity leave this time (until Oct.) and then will be back to doing limited engagements since her children are so young but I've read a couple articles calling her out for being "workshy" and her lack of work ethic compared to the other senior royals like Meghan. I think it probably is true that if she hadn't married William, she'd be a typical rich SAHM with a nanny who occasionally does charity work like her sister Pippa. Nothing wrong with that. I see them all over DC and Manhattan. I'm sure they're a dime a dozen in London too So why do people pick on her so much? I've never understood it. Sure she's a bit bland but not offensive.

From the blog post:

"To be absolutely clear, I’ve always believed that Kate can and should take time away from a public schedule after giving birth. She’s entitled to a maternity leave, regardless of how little work she does beforehand. What has always bugged me about the “maternity leave” discussion with Kate is that apparently we’re never, ever supposed to mention that Kate simply does not like to work, that she’d rather just stay home and have babies and get her hair done and go shopping. We’re not supposed to say that all of the talk about Kate’s being “keen” to work is just dumb filler PR in between her pregnancies and maternity leaves."

You...do know you're quoting a random bling called "celebitchy", right?

And Meghan doesn't have one child, much less 3.

Nice try troll. Let's all move on.

I think people care because her job is to be a working Royal.

Instead she got married 7 years ago and has spent 6 of those 7 either pregnant or on six-month maternity leaves which amounts to the same thing.

We were optimistic when she got married and gave her a year to get 'settled' into her position and to figure out how to be a good Royal, but now its just about 10 years running and she barely has any worthwhile Patronages to speak of, does no appearances, rarely leaves London etc etc.

I've given up on Kate but I also no longer think its my concern. The BRF will deal with it when/if they see any negative public opinion affecting them.

The bolded just cracked me up. It was actually never any of your concern.

One of my favorite lines from the Ali Wong Netflix's special is I don't want to lean in, I want to lie down.

Who cares that Kate doesn't want to work? Plus what would she do as a royal anyway.

I support her taking a long leave and having a reduced role while her children are young so she can focus more attention on parenting them, but she chose to marry into a family where they are all public servants and have certain responsiblities to the country. Public duties are something she very much signed up for when she married William, and can't just abdicate those responsibilities because she doesn't feel like doing it anymore. Well, she can, but she can't do it and then expect that no one in the country will have feelings about that.

Because being Duchess or Cambridge is a job. A cushy glamorous ultra privileged work but work none the less. The royalty functions as an extension of the British government tasked with the job of cultural and diplomatic relations with their subjects and foreign entities.

If she wanted to be a SAHM she should’ve married a wealthy man who works in the private sector. Instead she married into a family that has a massive public life with numerous engagements. That’s why she’s called lazy.

+1 No judgement of her choices here. I work full time because I have to. If I could, I'd be chillin at home with my kids too!

It's because her lifestyle is entirely funded by British taxpayers, many of whom are probably stressed-out parents themselves wondering why they should be paying for Kate.

The UK is generally ok with royalty if they feel that their royalty is helping the country. But I get the sense that many British people think Kate isn't doing that.

I think it will change, though, because Meghan is going to make her look bad in comparison.

Her lifestyle is funded by the british public so that she can use her platform to become an Ambassador for them and do good work. She even has a salary from the state I believe.

She already has and I don't think the first Duchess is going to be very happy about it. Meghan was working as a Royal before even marrying into the family. She did her first official working Royal appearance 3 days after getting married and is expected to announce her official patronages this fall.

It took Kate more than a year to do the same never-mind the fact that she got a 10-year running start as William's girlfriend-in-training pre-Wedding.

Wow, shocked by all the Kate hate. How is it wrong for her to want to raise her kids? Who really suffers when she skips yet another ball or reception? In 20 years no one will remember or care except her kids.

Kate is so lazy and entitled. She wants all the perks without any of the work.
