why do people care if Kate Middleton wants to be a SAHM?

Who cares that Kate doesn't want to work? Plus what would she do as a royal anyway.

I don't think people who think she should be working more are suggesting she go become a cashier at Tesco. They suggesting that she put more time into her current job representing the Royal family by attending events, bringing attention to causes the family supports, etc . . . Being a "royal" is her job. When she does less, then the slack is picked up by other members of the family, many of whom are quite elderly.

Disagree 100 percent. Her job was to produce heirs, which she has done in excellent time. She's earned a few months of down time.

If she wanted to be a SAHM she should’ve married a wealthy man who works in the private sector. Instead she married into a family that has a massive public life with numerous engagements. That’s why she’s called lazy.

This. Her lifestyle is funded by British taxpayers. So she isn't doing her job.

I think it's kind of unfair to compare Kate and Meghan because they had such different backgrounds. Kate didn't work for 10 years prior to her marriage because her family is rich, they wanted to run in those aristocratic circles, and that's the norm in that social class. None of those people really work for a living. They all have extensive family money or they do super glam jobs like club promotion or fashion PR, etc.

Meghan didn't grow up with those advantages.

It actually isn't at this point.

It's funded by Prince Charles.

I'm pretty sure only the monarch and the heir (the Prince of Wales) gets money from the government.

The UK is generally ok with royalty if they feel that their royalty is helping the country. But I get the sense that many British people think Kate isn't doing that.

Her lifestyle isn't paid for by British taxpayers. The income that comes into state coffers from the Crown Estate is much higher than what is given to the Royals. That doesn't include increased tax revenues from tourism.

Her job is to be an ambassador for the royals. If her 90+ year old GMIL can still work, then she has to. All of the GMILs kids are pretty screwed up though so it may have helped if she or her dh were home more when Charles and the other rugrats were kids.

Make no mistake...the GMIL will push Kate out there in the public if she has to. No being a SAHM for the royals!

I remember and care. I remember all the change Princess Diana affected globally not just locally for her causes in landmine-prevention, education, and HIV/AIDS prevention. And those are just the well-known ones.

Diana had over 100 Patronages.

Kate has 18. 6 of which are museums...which let's face it, don't need much in the way of actual work and another 1/3rd are done jointly with William. Oh, and she doesn't actually have appearances or interactions with the majority of them every single year.

The money from the Crown Estate comes from the British people. Her lifestyle is absolutely subsidized by the British public.

+1

Meghan is clearly a hard worker.

Who doesn't have three kids. Just wait until she also has multiple children, I bet she will follow Kate's lead in taking care of them.

I seriously doubt it. As a biracial woman, she's familiar with having to work 2x as hard for half the credit. She knows if she did this, she'd be eaten alive by the press.

That is why Kate bagged the wrong guy. William is an aristocrat but he actually has a super glamorous but full time, very stressful job; being an official and very high profile official of the U.K. government. All the perks that come with his life are only afforded to him with the expectation of elevating his office, prestige and status so as to justify his relationships with global heads or states. He is expected to work and work his butt off especially in this era of general public malaise about and suspicion of the importance of the monarchy. They need to be out there actively engaged and proving their worth every day so as to appease people nationally and globally that the monarchy is an institution that’s worth keeping around.

Kate’s job as Williams wife is tremendous and is a massive responsibility. She is too stupid to really understand it and treats it as a glamorous SAHM side gig.

Meghan being the smart scrappy hard worker that she is will and does understand her massive obligations. She has a vision and a plan. Kate is going to be massively outshined her her.

It's really fun to criticize people, isn't it? Especially about stuff that actually matters.

Can she reclaim her dignity by divorcing him? I suspect there is a reason William chose an introvert who prefers to spend more time with her kids despite having one of the most glamorous and famous women in the world as a mother.
