why do people care if Kate Middleton wants to be a SAHM?

Kate didn't work for 10 years prior to her marriage because her family is rich, they wanted to run in those aristocratic circles, and that's the norm in that social class. None of those people really work for a living. They all have extensive family money or they do super glam jobs like club promotion or fashion PR, etc.

Meghan didn't grow up with those advantages.

That is why Kate bagged the wrong guy. William is an aristocrat but he actually has a super glamorous but full time, very stressful job; being an official and very high profile official of the U.K. government. All the perks that come with his life are only afforded to him with the expectation of elevating his office, prestige and status so as to justify his relationships with global heads or states. He is expected to work and work his butt off especially in this era of general public malaise about and suspicion of the importance of the monarchy. They need to be out there actively engaged and proving their worth every day so as to appease people nationally and globally that the monarchy is an institution that’s worth keeping around.

Kate’s job as Williams wife is tremendous and is a massive responsibility. She is too stupid to really understand it and treats it as a glamorous SAHM side gig.

Meghan being the smart scrappy hard worker that she is will and does understand her massive obligations. She has a vision and a plan. Kate is going to be massively outshined her her. [/quote]

I doubt she cares. Whatever Meghan does or doesn't do, Kate will always be on top. She's the future queen, no matter what.

^ And that says what's wrong with that system in a nutshell (effort and merit don't matter, position through birth and marriage are all).

Well frankly I don't blame her. I wouldn't want to do that shit either. Most of it looks beyond dull and tedious. And she has to have a happy happy smile on her face the whole time. Ugh.

I actually feel bad for her. She married a guy and got stuck with a boring job. I'd hide out having babies too in her position.

NP. I'm not the OP but articles on they're being "workshy" are in more substantive places too like Newsweek and the Telegraph.

I think this is why Meghan endeared herself to the Queen by expressing a massive interest in the work related to be royal.

Actually I'd say that mindset would have worked if this was 1850. But it'll be 2050 before Kate MAYBE takes the throne. You can't live your life thinking 'I'm going to be Queen so for the first 50 years I'm doing jack squat'.

The Queen is 92 and could live to 100. Her mother was 102 when she passed. Charles is as healthy as a horse at 69 just like his father who just had a hip replacement at 97.

That's 30 years before she sees a throne.

This right here. Kate and Meghan's jobs aren't comparable. Kate's first job is to produce the next monarch. (second is to look pretty and be inoffensive)

Having babies was Diana's first job too. Diana didn't get into all her social work until the children were older. And I'm trying to remember (I was a young teen then), but I'm not entirely certain the crown was happy about all her involvement. She seemed to be sort of going her own way, being so public with her causes.

Anyway, there's no must for Meghan and Harry to have kids. It's fine if they do, but it's not Meghan's #1 job. She needs to be pretty, somewhat inoffensive (she has more latitude than Kate), and otherwise can do what she wants.

What work do the Royals do anyways? Cut ribbons and make bland speeches?

haha, I believe the royalty is mostly entertainment than anything else.

Although I find it hard to understand how dressing up and chatting/ making small talk with various people from time to time can be so draining on a woman.
It's an easier job than 99% of the population that actually have real work to do.

I remember and care. I remember all the change Princess Diana affected globally not just locally for her causes in landmine-prevention, education, and HIV/AIDS prevention. And those are just the well-known ones.

Diana had over 100 Patronages.

Kate has 18. 6 of which are museums...which let's face it, don't need much in the way of actual work and another 1/3rd are done jointly with William. Oh, and she doesn't actually have appearances or interactions with the majority of them every single year.

Diana didn't start most of that work until her sons were significantly older than Kate's children are now.

+1.
Plus, this is all oddly specific. Do YOU not have a job? Why aren't you focusing on that, or your kids rather than KateStats?

If you don't produce stats people think you're being superfluous. With numbers her abject lazinesss is crystal clear.

This is not a normal SAHM. It's ridiculous to compare. What Kate does is an issue because the monarchy in the UK is increasingly unpopular and rightly or wrongly, the perception that Kate is living an extremely luxurious life on the backs of the British public while not contributing back is hurting the monarchy.
