Am I too fat for spinning :(

Peloton seems to be so popular and looks like so much fun so I bought a cheaper version on amazon. I am 250 lbs so very overweight. Yesterday I did about 15 min before my feet were killing me from when you stand up and ride (this bike has regular pedals)....today as soon as I sat down my butt hurt so bad it was painful to finish 10 min and my feet were still aching! Please tell me it will get better because I loved the workout!!

I'm slim and my butt got super sore the first few times I did it. But after that, I got used to it and it didn't hurt anymore. So keep on spinning!

Have much smaller goals as you start - think 5 mins at a time every day for a week then maybe 10 mins a day for another couple weeks, then move up to 12 mins and just keep slowly adding more time

OP, good for you for trying! I hope you can keep it up. Having said that, please make sure you are watching your diet. That will have a much bigger impact on your weight than exercise. I keep thinking of this great young woman on YouTube, Suzanne. She was I think around 250lb when she started Keto. She was very inspiring to me. I followed a half Keto (meaning: some carbs) and it worked great for me. Check her out:

Buy a better seat. My seat moves around and makes my butt hurt. I’m trying to find a better seat on Amazon.

OP, I'm thin and had the same issues you do the first time I took a spinning class. It's not your weight. After a few classes, your body will acclimate.

Fat or thin, your ass will hurt when you spend time in a saddle of any bike. It takes your body a while to adjust — maybe a week. Changing saddles won’t help.

I’m normal weight and I can only do it every few days because my butt hurts afterwards. That’s fine though because it’s not my favorite thing anyway.

Op here - thanks all for the advice and encouragement. I’ve been trying to make small changes in my diet... breakfast and lunch are easiest for me to be in control over but dinner and weekends are where I struggle. I don’t want to go Keto but know that carbs are my downfall so trying to eat less. I’m down about 10 lbs so far and have a trip to New Zealand in January 2019 that I am really working towards both losing some weight and increasing my physical fitness since I want to be able to fully enjoy hiking there! That’s why the exercise is important to me. I’ve been doing a lot of walking but trying to kick it up a notch and I love the motivation a class environment provides.

I am not overweight and I have given myself more than one stinger in the butt from spinning. That's just acclimation to the seat -- you can wear padded shorts or get a padded seat if you need it at the beginning.

You will get better at standing as your core muscles develop and strengthen. It's mainly a core weakness issue. Think of it as building endurance.

Awesome OP! That is a great motivator and I envy you your upcoming trip! I just wanted to add that I found treadmill hiking a good prep for an extended Rockies trip a few years back. I had gotten out of shape d/t job etc and I found that doing hill sessions with the incline hiked up really helped build my endurance back up (but ease into it). Great for rainy or hot weather when you can't get outside.

Op here - yes, I agree it will be food, my only issue is I get so bored on the treadmill! Even with my iPad or music I can’t seem to get motivated to do more than 20 min.

OP can you give us some bio info? How much weight do you want to loose? How old? How long have you been overweight? What are your pitfalls? When you say carbs, do you mean bread and pasta? Or candy, cookies, ice cream?
