| Keep spinning!! It’s really hard at first, and I wasn’t always able to stand every time or complete the workout as it was designed - that’s OK!! Just keep trying to improve every time, you WILL get there! |
Op here - I am 39, female, 2 kids (5 and 3). I’ve been overweight my whole life but my weight has basically just crept up year after year until now when it was 260.... I have literally never stuck to a diet, only one time I lost 20 pounds. I think I have three problems. First, I Eat out way too much and always pick heavy food (bread/pasta/cheese/fried( 2. I have a major sweet tooth and will sneak candy during the day or ice cream before bed, and 3. I’m busy and don’t make time for preparing meals, working out, etc. believe it or not I am a senior executive in my fortune 100 company. I sometimes wonder how I can do so well in my career but fail so miserably with health. I was trying to work out before work but I found myself too tired and not as mentally clear at work so now need to make time in the evening. Breakfast I have been doing overnight oatmeal with fresh almond milk, chia, and almonds topped with blueberries and strawberries. Lunch I can preorder a salad with tons of fruits and veggies and avocado from the local chopped salad place. I just placed an order for grocery delivery and made a dinner plan for the week, I think that will be important. And finally, we go out a lot so I just need to order healthier things - I feel like it’s not rocket science I just can’t seem to continually make good choices. Would love advice for anyone that has figured this out |
| You said your bike had regular pedals--does that mean it's not possible to clip in bike shoes? Can you change the pedals for clip in pedals? I am not thin but I exercise a lot and one of the reasons I do spinning is that it gives my feet a break. Bike shoes, which have a hard platform for a sole, give you a better workout and a more comfortable ride. Your foot is not bent as it is in a sneaker. You can relax your foot and ankle and you are not just smashing pedals down but pulling up also so working quads and abs more. I can't emphasize enough how much of a difference bike shoes make. Your butt bones will get acclimated to the seat but I still use a gel seat for every ride. |
| OP, I’m 125 pounds and feel as badly as you do when I try to bike or spin. It’s so difficult and painful to me! It is not just you or your weight, so don’t get discouraged. If you liked the workout, keep at it, and you’ll adjust. It’s not supposed to be easy! |
OP I asked about the bio. Can you pm me? I’d like to help you. |

This is extremely creepy. If you have something to tell OP, just post it on the forum. There are other people out there who may benefit from what you have to say. |
No, the issue is not that you are overweight but that you are out of shape. I'm relatively skinny but out of shape and had the exact same issue when I started spinning a few months ago. I skipped the part where you stand up and ride for a while, and started off doing just 15 minutes at a time and built my way up. |
NP. I expect there's a sales pitch in there somewhere. There is at least one trainer trolling the board. |
| OP, check out BistroMD. I get them every other week to have balanced healthy meals available all the time. I don’t follow their plan, it’s just real but frozen healthy food when you need something quick. Also, check out iifymwomen.org and hire a coach. Paige is especially wonderful. |
No sales pitch here. I too want to be careful and don’t want other creeps to contact me! OP, if you’re up to it, you’re welcome to reach out. If not, no problem. |

I purchased this seat for my spinning bike:

OP, I agree with all of the advice you've gotten so far. It takes a couple of rides for your butt to acclimate to the seat. I also highly recommend bike shoes and clips, makes spinning a very different experience. After my first spin class, I could barely walk for a week my legs hurt so bad!
What kind of bike did you get? |
|
Good for you OP. It sounds like you will be in great shape for your trip.
I’ve recently lost weight and am technically overweight anymore BMI just barely at the normal range. I’ve been doing CrossFit, some walking and elliptical. Have been thinking about trying spinning but have been too nervous to try. You’ve inspired me. |
I think it’s called Sunny from amazon - seems sturdy and was easy to put together. Thinking I will let my dear end rest tomorrow and try again on Tuesday. |
