Wuhan virus (coronavirus) arrives in the USA

It sounds like the fatality rate is even worse in America. 6% fatality rate here.

We are supposed to have a warmer than normal spring.

Good.

Does warm weather really slow the spread? Or is this one of those myths?

I have heard that warm weather does slow Coronaviruses, in general, down.

Warm weather and alcohol....maybe a corona on a warm beach is, in fact, the antidote.

We don’t have a valid sample size yet. Not even close. Wait until significantly more cases are resolved.

We don’t know. It is, after all, a NOVEL virus.

Also, Life Care FINALLY stopped accepting visitors and new patients this afternoon.

Wonder who Typhoid Mary is and whether or not she kept her travels (or her family's) to herself.

This is exactly why people don’t want to come forward.

Fear of lawsuits?

A-holes like PP.

I would imagine that medically frail people confined to an LTC who were exposed to this virus would have much poorer outcomes than the average person on the street would.

Exactly. We can hope but we don't know. It spread in Singapore, which is warm and humid.

To self soothe, some people will say we have many more undetected cases. Our only hope is warm weather getting here soon and having an effect on the lipid envelope of the virus. Scientists don’t know — some say, yes, that may happen, but others say, no idea. If it doesn’t ... we’re in trouble.

Speaking of self-soothing.

Snapshot of the situation in Lombardy:

Three hospitals: Lodi, Seriate and Crema, are coronavirus only hospitals.

Regional counselor tested positive for coronavirus (Mattinzoli); is in hospital now
all other members of the counsil are being tested now as they were all at a press conference together.

50 million allocated for hiring more nurses;

Counil members canceled a visit to the coronavirus hospitals because they are all being tested for COVID.

Lombardy Governor Fontana is in self isolation because staff member was positive; that employee is healing nicely; soon to be discharged to home.

positive news -- 2 patients have been discharged from hospital. However 7 deaths means total of 38 from this area have died.

medical staff from the military will be sent to help out

hospitals are under stress, 10 towns in the "red zone" completely shut down; companies are in difficulty.

Museums and libraries in Milan will reopen from Monday and Milan's cathedral will be opened but with caution, limiting access.

Patients discharged from hospitals but still positive will go to the Baggio military hospital in Milan to recover; asking for military doctors to help; don't know how many there will be or what their specialties will be.

positive cases of coronavirus in Lombardy 1,254, the hospitalized at 478, in addition to the people in intensive care who are 127. The asymptomatic positives are 472 and the deaths have risen to 38. For the latter it is treated in all the last cases of people over 80 years of age, all with related diseases and problems of a particular cardiological, nephrological or diabetic nature, "continued the councilor.

Increasing the number of intensive care units to around 200; already they have places for 140.
The increase will allow them to withstand the onslaught of new patients expected.

40 million euros allocated to buy machines (ventilators?) and 10 million to hire new doctos and nurses.

Weakest group is over 65 years of age; make up 53% of cases

68% of those in intensive care are over 65

Recommendation to those over 65 is to "make social life more rarefied: stay at home and reduce contacts with other people."

11 days into the emergency in Milan, we are changing our strategy.
Goal is to avoid further flooding in hospitals.
Three hospitals will be dedicated to coronavirus; won't rule out adding more.
Will purchase 62 more CPAP machines to use at the start of the illness to try to prevent patients needing to go to intensive care.
40 million euros for CPAP machines and basic necessities
10 million euros to hire 100 doctors and 200 nurses
2.5 million for hospitals serving the red zone
2 million for other area hospitals
1 million for "nosocomes"?

The Chinese donated to Lombardy 30 thousand four-ply masks, 600 ffp3 masks, 400 ffp2 and then 30 thousand disposable gloves

9,000 people in solitary confimement; some will be allowed to go to tyhe military Barracks of Bggion in Milan.

Those over age 65 encouraged "not to leave the house for two weeks and to minimize socializing".

Asking the Lombard mayors "to prepare a plan for the elderly, in particular for those who are alone and have no one who does their shopping or brings them medicines. We will ask the mayors to activate the voluntary associations that can help us in this regard".

Members of the council have tested negative for the virus.

No. It's in the high eighties every day in Singapore. And they have a problem there.

I saw an expert with fancy degrees MDPHD I think interviewed and he said that is a myth. Instead in wearmer weather our nose is less likely to run due to something with blood vessels so we are less likely to catch viruses. They don't die off in summer.

Slow down. Think. Many cases arrived in advanced condition. Wait for more data. You jumping now.

We don’t have a higher fatality rate. We basically aren’t testing, compared to other countries. South Korea has tested over 60,000 people.
