Well, that's true. I don't want to knock Shepherd. Everyone there loves it and it seems like a lovely school in a fantastic neighborhood. I'm just questioning whether residence fraud to attend Shepherd is endemic considering that two of the closest MCPS elementary schools to Shepherd are in Chevy Chase, and all feed to strong middle schools (TPMS and Westland). There may be some, but I don't think it's a huge problem. But, then again, I am one of the folks who is inclined to give people the benefit of the doubt and assume some folks with MD plates are nannies, grandparents, foster parents, etc.

Shepherd is more silver spring than Chevy Chase in every quantifiable measure. The real formula is 2/3 Silver spring, 1/3 Brightwood with a dash of Arcola/Wheaton for orthodox flavor

Agent here. I've had two homes listed FOR SALE, not rent....and people called if I could "rent" the address for school purposes.

Wow.

It doesn't deprive anyone of a seat at school. It just deprives everyone of tax revenue.

Not necessarily. Years ago I was battling my lien holder to release my title to DC DMV for months and months. All the while I was living in DC, paying DC taxes and held a DC license. Many, many posts ago I mentioned there are many reasons why someone who resides in DC can have out of state plates. From any jurisdiction, not just MD.

People on this thread are so short-sighted.

No, they're not short-sighted. You're just injecting a rare occurrence to justify rampant illegal behavior. But since you think trying to get out of paying your bills is acceptable, I guess you believe residency cheating is OK too.

Ha! You guessed wrong. I don't think it's ok. But I can't knock a hustler. Everyone has a hustle and it's not the same thing for everybody.
And rampant? I do believe that's a stretch.

It be the ol' DC way.

Can I admit it was one car I saw with md plates and it was in the parking lot of the target in Columbia Heights? With a shepherd pta sticker.

But it says something about what's happened to me that I immediately thought of you all.

I don't know of ANY residence fraud at Shepherd. I wouldn't care if I did, but I don't know of any. And I'm sure people within DC are more flexible with their in-bounds than they're willing to admit. In New York, renting studios in a good school district is just considered smart business. I know you DC-ites are more law-abiding, because you bring it up every third sentence? And I'm sure all the scandals that come out about you taking too much money from lobbyists, or getting government contracts to make paper clips out of sustainable straw are just products of the liberal media. Or Fox News. You know, whichever.

Just go back to NY and leave us in peace. You sound like a neurotic troll.

What of it. Maybe the parents are separated, or divorced. Maybe the mom doesn't have custody.

Many folks who grew up in MD never change their license plates when they become DC residents. Yes, it's illegal but it's widespread. They'll keep the car registered and insured through their original family/parents' home.

If you have an off-street parking spot in the District, there's no reason to take the necessary time off to go to the DC DMV, pay the absurd upfront "tax" on the value of the automobile, etc. Huge time suck and very expensive. Especially if you're from MD and think you might move back one day.

And vice versa. I know of old DC residents who kept their tags and lives in MD.

isn't Bethesda MOCO? There are posters saying that nobody would put their kid in a DC school when they can use MOCO schools.

Nope. She's just calling it as she reads it. You however seem quite trollish.
