The police chief kept it together tonight. Someone told him to tone it down. Thank god!

Isn't the protocol that the friendly detectives offer the guy a can of Coke at the first meeting and then have the can tested? They might also be able to take his toothbrush if they got a pretty broad search warrant. |
If this guy has nothing to hide, why did he flee Charlottesville at high speed? |
+1 Never seen a policeman in media appearances so emotional to a point one wonders as to his objectivity. |
They probably already have DNA samples from his apartment (toothbrush and comb) but just need chain of custody evidence from him. |
And you wonder why the last five girls who are missing are unsolved. Scary! |
I suspect that they took his white pants/shirt that he wore in the video and tested them for evidence of semen and HG's DNA. If any of her DNA is on his clothes, it would support the charge of abduction with intent to defile. They can't charge rape b/c they don't know if she refused any sexual advances. They know she isn't where she intended to be b/c all evidence is that she intended to be in school. So, I suspect the clothes and/or the car have some of HG's biological evidence on them.

He could come up with a story where she willingly left with him and made out and had sex with him. Might come down to physical evidence on her body but he could also say it was consensual rough sex and he accidentally strangled her. I think that is what the Preppy Boy murderer said about his victim. |
I've become a little obsessed with this case. I really hope she is out there somewhere alive.
Would they have her DNA by now to have discovered it on his clothes? Matthew is not acting like an innocent person, but I don't understand why, if he was involved in her disappearance or death at all, he would voluntarily go to the police, talk to a lawyer, and leave. You'd think he would either run for the hills or turn himself in. What he actually did do makes no sense. My gut tells me this may be like the girl who died in McLean last year -- I think he did take her intending to have sex with her, how much she protested who knows, in her state, and maybe something went wrong (drug overdose perhaps?), and he dumped the body. |
It's just like on one of those Nature programs where the predators follow and swoop down on the disoriented young one who has been separated from the herd. |
If she willingly got into the car then is it abduction? How do they know his intentions? Where is she?! ![]() |
I hope they find JM SOON. |
There's even a tabloid TV phrase, "white girl missing." which can drive cable news for some time. Paging Nancy Grace. That said, this is a real tragedy, and the victim is a young student at a prestigious university. There are clues and then nothing. There's obviously a story in that. |
Maybe the police have a witness saying HG left the bar with JM. That, along with the witness who said she looked out of it or distressed might be enough to conclude that she was impaired (not able to make a choice of going with him)and he had his arms around her... and she hasn't returned to the things she intended to be doing (i.e. they know she was trying to get to her friends and that she had commitments to be at school or social plans the next day). Even without any biological evidence, it could be enough to charge the abduction with intent to defile. |
We need John Walsh to help us get this guy! |
