I'm a new mom and I want to be prepared for the "good" schools for my DD. What are the big 3? And, when do you start with the application for pre-school? Are there any magnet school for preschool/elementary in the Arlington/D.C. are? Thanks in advance for the info.

Happy to help! The "Big 3" are Reading, Writing and 'Rithmetic. If your kid learns these, he or she will be on the road to academic success!

Maybe she could get the moderators to start a DCUM bigotry thread. The people who worry about so-called "low-income" problems in their local public schools would also feel at home there.
