Tell us exactly WHAT these 6 have done to impose their religious views on you or anyone else. Be specific. |
Good grief. Every Republican has come out in support of IDF. And, I have heard not even one of them speak against contraception. Mike Johnson has expressed his support for IVF - and I believe he is a Southern Baptist. "Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, made clear his support for the "sanctity of life" as well as IVF." https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mike-johnson-interview-ivf-decision-state-of-the-union/ Find a new argument. The Senate: |
Can you tell us why we should believe them? The Republican SCOTUS justices also said that Roe was settled law. See how that turned out. A lot of these Republicans also condemned Trump until they didn’t and they did an about face on him. Why should we trust they will not do an about face on IVF, birth control and more if they see it as being politically beneficial? Be specific. |
They overturned Roe based on their religious beliefs. You will never convince me otherwise. |
Whatever nonsense people are saying here is demonstrably false.
https://www.politico.com/news/2024/06/12/ivf-southern-baptist-convention-evangelical-00162994 The republicans are attacking IVF. At least, the majority of them. |
This is just the dumbest fking issue. People are waiting to have kids later anyway. Why do the right wing want to hasten the trend of a lower population by preventing the care that would allow families to have babies?
So many young people are eschewing having kids and you dumb fks and your personhood bullsht IVF theory need to fk off. |
Did you not read Dobbs? Fetal personhood. It’s a Catholic and evangelical construct. Contraception and IVF will be next. Senate republicans already blocked legislation ensuring access to contraception. |
The trick is, Republicans support IVF, but the IVF clinics will not operate in a state without abortion rights. That is because you may have extra embryos which need to be destroyed, or that become accidentally destroyed, and if there's a murder charge waiting when that happens, no one wants to take that chance.
So supporting IVF without supporting abortion rights, is going to result in the state offering neither. |
Undoing Roe despite testimony that it was "settled law" is a start. |
The Cruz bill has a huge exception for "health and safety standards," which abortion opponents used for years to harass abortion providers. Also, the only consequence for banning IVF completely would be the loss of some Medicaid funding. |
Overturning Roe, let's start with that. |

Senate Republicans have blocked a Democratic-led bill to codify broad federal protections for IVF.
Before the vote, GOP senators said they favor legal IVF but prefer a narrower bill that Democrats called ineffectual. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/senate-republicans-block-democratic-bill-protect-ivf-nationwide-rcna156416?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_ma&taid=666b3e7c33dadb0001abf5e1&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter |
