Is it "elite" though ![]() |
I was one of the posters talking about scouting in DA's above, and I was mostly referring to the high school age groups (currently DA U14/2002 and above). To answer the original question here, I don't think people pay much attention to stats in the U12 and U13 age groups--the DA doesn't even post playing time or start time stats for U12. But that doesn't mean those age groups aren't scouted. For this year, the youngest age group for the youth national team pool is the 2003s, or DA U13s. For example: http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2017/02/21/19/35/20170221-u14bnt-news-peay-calls-36-players-to-u14-bnt-training-camp-in-carson The vast majority of kids invited to national team camps come from the DA, and they are scouted by regional USSF reps, presumably including some at the U12 age groups. The US Training Centers, which are one of the main sources for national team players, currently start with the 2004 age group. College coaches don't take as much interest on the boys' side until players are in high school, and don't typically express interest in players (in the round-about way that's permitted under NCAA rules) until late 9th grade or early 10th grade. They are not going to rely only on stats, though if they don't have other intelligence on a kid, they may start by looking at the ones who have a lot of starts or have scored a lot of goals. Sometimes the numbers are off due to injury though. None of this means you should feel pressure to rush your young kid to a DA program if he is getting great training where he is. There will be time later if he's great. That being said, if your kid would be a standout on an area U12-U14 DA team, you should keep in mind that he will likely have an easier time breaking into a team at a club with a full DA program because the coaches at those clubs take note of potential prospects on opposing teams. |
Girls are different. U14 will be 7th and 8th graders. U15 will be 8th and 9th...and recruiting has begun. Plenty of 8th and 9th graders on ECNL getting looked at for non-verbal |
^^verbal comittments |
Please get help, dude. I'm worried I'm going to see an episode of Cops in which you've been arrested for assaulting a parent on the sideline. |
They beat a Carolina team with April Heinrichs, Marcia McDermott, Tracey Bates and Wendy Gebauer. I think they could hang with today's youth teams. |
I wonder if that might change soon. Lacrosse coaches recently agreed to quit contacting kids that young. |
Women soccer players were better because they were the only ones playing soccer. USA is good at a lot of things, I'm not so sure sports in general is always one of them. Our dream team in Mens basketball dominated the 90's. Then the world took notice and if you all remember the World Championships and Olympics when the mens team placed below 2nd place was a huge wake up call. That was also when Lebron and a few others took playing over the summer for their country seriously. Often our players would complain that playing over the summer left them too tired to play in the NBA. HA! That would be like a Pulisic, Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo, Neur, Rooney, Bale, Pogba, Buffon, etc. saying the need to focus on their club teams and would forego playing in WC qualifiers or other regional or global tournaments. We wouldn't expect it now from the NBA players, but that was the rationale. |
^^^Here we go. Someone asked you to explain your position but instead you take it to another realm by attacking the person who asked you the question instead of answering the question. |
Any idea what this just announced VEPA partnership is? |
Who announced it? |
Annandale, SYC, Herndon, FCV, and Great Falls. Some sort of all-star team that gets together once a week to train with elite players from the other four clubs. Will participate in tournaments too but the players will still play for their home club. |
Can u post a linkabout this? |
Found it: http://www.annandaleunitedfc.com/page/show/3366175-vepa Sounds like a way to boost parents' egos by saying their kids are in some elite training program for which their teammates are ineligible. Should go over really well. |
Elite pathway to what? Another gimmicky program. I think it's great that it's free but who is going to drive their kid for an hour just to train. Oh it's "elite" pick-up. |
