Tiny tennis skirts, tight pants with riding boots..the typical private school mom?

Anonymous
What's with all the women who show up to volunteer meetings at private schools - the bleached blondes wearing their tiny tennis skirts as though they are literally coming from the court, or show up in ski tight pants and riding boots as though they just came in from riding their horses? I'm a simple middle class gal whose child just happened to get into an expensive good private school. I've never really been around wealthy people. I wanted to do volunteer work and am a little surprised at how these women appear. They look like they stepped out of a fashion shoot or vogue. Is this typical?

Is this really the best you can do?

It may be typical, but it doesn't mean you have to do it too. I'm always the worst dressed among the volunteers at our school (t-shirts and jeans, for example), and whatever -- we all wear what we want to and get along just fine and then go have our own lives outside of our kids' school. then again, the other parents at the school are not my primary social group, so that might make a difference if you want to fit in/hang out with the predominant social clique.

If you must go down to their level, show up in your bunny costume.

If ya got it, flaunt it, baby!

I don't know what private school you are talking about, but that's not the way mom's show up at our DC's private school (which is in DC).

Sounds like more of a suburban thing. Though the parents tend to dress well, I've never seen a tennis outfit or a rising outfit at my kid's DC school. Plenty of gym outfits, though.

I've seen lots of tennis outfits at DC's school, but in fact, I think the women really are coming from playing tennis (or about to go play after the event)! There are a lot of country-club tennis-playing mothers at this school.

Our children our at one of these "Big 3's". I have seen a tennis skirt on occasion (although not always on a "bleached blonde" as you describe) and I think once I did see a mom (also not a bleached blonde skinny) in riding pants. I see more of these types in Potomac, not in the District. Most of the District moms are either SAHM's in jeans or workout clothes or WM's in suits or business casual.....

OP just wants to start a good fight........And away we go!

I'm wondering if OP is at Potomac or Norwood.

I wonder this too, as there has been a flurry of chatter lately on the culture of Norwood.

I have a kid at Norwood and I have yet to see a parent show up in a tiny tennis skirt or riding boots. I assumed OP was a troll.

And a bit of a bore. Her "simple middle class gal" roots are showing....

Sounds like a Beverly Hills, VA (Alexandria) mom. If the mom doesn't pick the child up in a tennis skirt, the worn out nanny picks em up because the neglectful mom is at the tennis court or riding stable. Such tools.
