Tiny tennis skirts, tight pants with riding boots..the typical private school mom?

Probably not Potomac as all the kids there have to ride the bus.. there aren't moms dropping and picking up kids each day.

Okay - even if this is a troll posting, I've heard the tennis skirt complaint before (usually from mom's stereotyping schools where their kids don't attend). My question is - why waste your breath on this sort of pointless criticism? Why send your kid to a private school when you know you will encounter some form of high-income culture no matter what. RICH PEOPLE GO TO PRIVATE SCHOOLS and have the money to look good and dress well and not work. Some (but not all) throw nice parties and wear nice clothes and drive nice cars and they can do all of this stuff and not think too hard about it and still be nice caring people and excellent parents who don't give a crap if you are showing up in TARGET day after day. Granted, you can find snobs here and there who would not want to be your best friend even if you had all of the bells and whistles. But if you want to send your kid to a fancy private school - you better be comfortable with your decision and all that it may imply for your own socioeconomic comfort zone.

I could not have said it better. (Mom with highlights, who actually likes riding boots, but does not ride or own a horse)

I pick my kid up at her private school in my (Target) tennis skirt and/or yoga pants.

I think the tennis outfits are cute.

Maybe we should all stop judging each other on what we wear or what we look like and actually get to know each other first. I always think it odd that so many people are concerned about what other people wear. Get a life.

Agree with the get a life post. I like seeing fit women at school it inspires me to workout. I also like seeing women who have a sense of style, it inspires me to not schlep around in sweats. Both are good things. And I have many a nice mom who happens to play tennis, perhaps belong to a CC (the horror!) or who is fashionable, and slim and may even color her hair (double horror!). I like to get to know people first before judging them. That goes for schlepy moms as well.

Guilty as charged. Tennis skirts, running clothes, nice car and also nice kid by the way. I only want to take one shower a day so I go to school in the morning with my blonde ponytail and Target outfits. Then I go home and count my money . Does anyone actually care about this nonsense??

Reminds me of the day my 6 year old daughter asked in all earnestness if she could grow up to be beautiful AND nice AND smart. All our great efforts toward diversity and understanding have still not taught people to stop putting each other in boxes -- hey, the rich have feelings, too!

I really had never seen a woman in a tennis skirt at Safeway before I lived near Belle Haven (Alex). It freaked me out because I was working as a gardener and was really filthy! It's a different world.

Speaking of gardening, I show up at pickup at least once a week wearing gardening clogs, and I'm sweaty (stinky?) and I have kinda hairy legs on occasion (an oversight). I may have grass in my hair.

Do these women in tennis skirts actually know how to play....tennis that is?

Do women in yoga pants actually do yoga? Do women in running shoes actually run? Who cares?
