But of course, I do. That's why I asked the question. If you don't simply pass and shut up. |
My apologies, PP. I didn't realize you had such a sincere interest in the athletic abilities of this much-maligned population. |
Another Norwood mom here. Agree with this 100%. The only place I have seen tennis skirts and bleached bolnde hair is at a church-based prechool in Chevy Chase that DC used to attend. |
Why are people so mean-spirited? Why do you care if someone is wearing a tennis outfit? I wish I would be able to still fit into one of those skirts!
As some earlier poster said -- yes, there are really well-off people at the private schools. How do you think people pay for the tuition anyway? Stop holding grudges and judging people. As for me, my daughter attended a private school where people had their own jets, horses, drivers, second & third homes, etc. Their kids had the same issues as mine and mine was the only one to get into a very select Ivy. Some said they would have liked to have traded places with me even though we live in a nice townhouse in a nice neighborhood sans drivers, jets, etc. |
These posts are why women get a bad rap about focusing our energies on the petty. I find it astounding that there are posts here from some of the same parents complaining about mean girls. It seems that some of us haven't gotten past junior high.
How about if we try to focus on the positive and more important issues? Maybe if we tried to see other women as possibilities instead of liabilities, we'd be happier in our daily lives. |
Amen!!! |
Bravo - your daughter's Ivy League admission trumped all those tennis-skirt wearing, jet-setting, third-home-owning moms! That'll show 'em! May I suggest we take the advice of a previous poster and stop judging each other. Yes, I do find it silly when I see people driving cars that clearly have no other purpose than to serve as a display of wealth, or wear riding pants to pick up their kid so they can flash their "aristocratic" credentials. I admit that that I find these first impressions to be off-putting. However, I learned at my DC's old school that looks can be deceiving. Yes, some of these people are probably shallow and superficial and only care about appearances. But some of these stylish/blond ponytailed etc. moms turned out to be terrific people and ultimately good friends. Conversely, some of those "down-to-earth," sweatpant-wearing parents turned out to be unbelievably snobby and judgmental. So let us all attempt to look past appearances and also refrain from trumpeting our kids' Ivy League admissions (like the above poster) as a way of proving that personal jets and drivers don't matter. We all know they don't matter, except possibly to the people who have them. |
I love my DD's big 3 school. She is so happy there and is learning so much. I really don't care what the other parents wear. The children, for the most part, are dressed appropriately for a busy day at school, indoors and out, the teachers are also appropriately dressed (and I say this with the memories a scantily clad teacher at daycare!).
And before someone decides to jump on that kids are dressed for school "for the most part", I will plead guilty to letting my 4 year old DD go to school in a dress that was way too much for school at least once so far this school year but I think any mother of a 4 year old girly girl, running late some morning, will understand that decision! |
OP, you must be at Landon! |
As a Landon mom for six years, can't say that I see that description fitting most of there! Not in my wardrobe or anyone else I know........but people on these boards seem to love to be nasty towards others. |
Dear Holier the Thou, You missed my point. My only point is the grass is always greener on the other side. If anyone asks for my help on how to get your get into an Ivy -- I give it to them -- I don't care if they have jets or live in a ghetto. Get over yourself. |
![]() OMG. Do you think the parents at my kids school will be able to tell that I live in Ward 6 because I wear clothes from Gap. |
Ward 6 is Capitol Hill, I think your reputation is safe. (Had you said Ward 7 or 8...) |
I don't ride or play tennis - but I think the posters suggesting that moms are showing up in tennis skirts or riding pants or 'whatever" to "show off" or flaunt their wealthy image are seriously misguided (and I'm sorry to say this, but a little insecure). It's no different than showing up in the gardening clothes, or the Gap Yoga outfit (even if you were cleaning all day and not at the gym) or in a suit after running to pick up from a business meeting - whatever.... |
I agree, and as one who might show up in yoga pants out of laziness, tennis skirt out of time crunch, riding boots at least-- usually not full blown riding pants, out of comfort and an attempt at being somewhat fashionable these days, odd mix matched outfits out crazy life-ness, I certainly would not want to be judged and don't judge others for the same. And yes, for the record I have blonde hair that I wear in a pony tail some days. I had no idea you moms were judging me! |
