If I go Keto, but my husband and kids are not keto, how bad would that be for their health? If we're eating lots of heavy meats and dairy, but they're still eating bagels too? Breakfast and lunch are easy to have separate menus a la carte, but we eat one family meal all together for dinner. It's easy for me to NOT eat the bread option, but we wouldn't prepare separate meats. Both parents work, 3 kids, no private chef ![]() |
Kudos to you!!!! The only thing that would be unhealthy for your husband is if he kept eating all his hugh |
*sorry, all his HIGH carbs but added all your high fats. That would be the worst option, because the carbs would keep his insulin high, the fat would make his calories high, and the insulin would make himstore all those extra calories as fat.
Moderate protein on keto would fit both of your ways of eating, so that's good. He can add carbs and you can add fats to that. |
In our family, what has happened is that my husband and son eat eat fewer carbs, which is good for all of us. DH has picked up my keto ways and we add things like potatoes and rice for our son. |
I don't see why you can't make rice, potatoes, bread, or whatever carb the on side for dinner and have your husband and son serve themselves while you just serve yourself vegetables and meat? |
+1. I’m not strictly keto but low carb and my spouse who is rail thin LOVES a carb side. I just don’t touch it. I also keep dinner rolls frozen to bake one off for him if we’re having cauliflower mash which he also loves. Or I’ll eat meat sauce over frozen zucchini noodles while he has pasta, etc. There are so so many easy ways to modify without making separate meals. |
I love these ideas so far |
For dinner, I make carb sides that I don't crave or even like very much.
For me, that's rice. I could take it or leave it. Not a temptation. We all eat the same protein and veggies, but I eat mine over cauliflower rice or zucchini noodles while they go heavy on rice. On the other hand, I try hard not to make pasta very often for dinner! I just love it too much! LOL. And when I do make it, I'm sure to have zoodles or spaghetti squash ready for me to eat instead. Also, I never have bread or rolls on the table for dinner. No pizza either. DH and DCs eat plenty of those things for lunch. For taco night, they eat hard or soft taco shells. I put my taco meat over cauliflower rice or whatever other veggie I prepare. It helps that they all go heavy on carbs for breakfast (cereal, waffles, bagels, pancakes etc.), which is great because none of those things tempt me at all. So between breakfast and lunch, they get their fix. Dinner has been evolving over time to a lower-carb approach, though I don't make a big deal about it to them. ![]() |
I do keto and feed the rest of my family the starches. There has been no change in our family diet, only mine. Actually, I probably make one extra vegetable dish at dinner now, so I suppose they have one extra choice than before. The only challenge I have found is avoiding rice, I love it. That is where I want to cheat and have to focus my efforts. My best bet so far is to make only enough for them and not me.
Overall, Keto is the easiest diet I have tried regarding impacts on family eating and eating out. Super easy. |
Not much different to add to the above, except to note that my family has grown to like zoodles, cauliflower rice/mash, etc. We eat a lot of veggies and the kids are used to eating roasted cauliflower, roasted cabbage, other veggies, etc. plus meat for dinner, so we are often eating lower carb (although not all the way keto) main meals anyway. High carb isn't healthy for anyone IMO. |
What kind of food do you choose when you eat out? |
