| But at U9 how can they even know which kids belong on which team? It seems arbitrary. |
You can usually tell with your eyes. I don't know any other club that doesn't tell you which tier level your child will be |
| They stopped moving kids between teams when Lee was there. And they have always identified which team when making an offer. |
Agree. And FWIw SYC offered my U9 a spot in the white team. |
Alexandria and Arlington don't move their players up and down all season either. That's crazy! What's your point? I had two kids at that other club, NOT on the "maldonados" teams and no one EVER moved anyway. Actually that was a promise the Executive Director at that club made every year and it never happened. Even before Este came along! Please move on... We have! |
Most clubs don't move players during the year, and very rarely between seasons. From a soccer sense - yes, it is crazy. The reasons have nothing to do with soccer though. It boils down to just less drama. It is crazy to think that decisions about player placement made in May will still hold true the following March (esp considering developmental fluctuations at these ages), but the drama that would inevitably follow the decision to "demote" a player mid-year is just not worth it for most clubs. Same goes for between years really. For a club to make the decision to demote a player, they basically have to decide they're OK with that player leaving. They are willing to exchange a bottom-of-the-team level player for a top-of-the-team level player coming in from the outside, but within the club promotions usually mean a player is (perceived as being) only marginally better than the one they'd be replacing, so it's rarely worth it. This is especially true when you are talking about the top team at any club, as players demoted from that team will almost always leave the club in response. This is why B team players have a better chance at making an A team at a different club than their existing club. SYC and LMVSC are not unique in this. |
Not always the case that players leave the club. I know of a handful of players that were moved from A to B and decided to stay with the club. Sometimes that is always the best for the players. If parent egos dont get in the way it usually works out. If they can excel at other clubs good for them. I get the impression most clubs have enough players to backfill from lower teamsso not that big of a hit if one player leaves. |
Yes, but club's don't base these decisions based on the handful of players who might stay even if demoted, but on the majority who would definitely leave. |
The point is that when you get an email from SYC saying "rosters are completely fluid and subject to change after the season, during the season, or even before the season," don't believe it. If your kid was first team at SYC this year and is now 2nd team, expect them to stay there. |
Same way that if you kid was in a second/below competitive "level" team, don't expect him/her to be on first team. Just because they were Blue don't expect them to always be blue. Especially when puberty hits! Yikes! |
|
You're completely missing the point, which is that as LMVSC coaches brought over a bunch of kids to be first-team players, they also want to keep the SYC former first-team players, now as second-team players. This will create a lot of depth, for sure. But any club can only have one first team (any club, all the way up to the pros). They are trying to keep these players by explicitly stating that the rosters are fluid, people will move around, lots of guest playing, etc. This is not implied, but explicitly stated.
They are dangling this idea in front of SYC families in order to get them to accept orange team offers instead of accepting first team offers at different clubs. All I'm saying is that these families need to understand that this will likely NOT happen. If you're okay with SYC's orange team for the entire year, go for it. It might work out okay, as SYC plans to have the orange team playing games in both CCL2 and EDP, which means lots of game time. But do not believe that there will be a real opportunity to switch rosters and count on that happening. |

Not sure the coaches actually "brought" the players from LMVSC but more like word of mouth from parents and the kids wanting to follow their coaches. If parents were at the tryouts you could see that those kids are very talented and played at a slightly higher level. You cannot compare apples to oranges. The system is completely changing and it looks like for the better. I would give it a year unless parents egos can't handle the changes!
Honestly, I don't know how many of the kids would actually get first team offers at different clubs. Except at LMVSC, which I would not recommend right now... |
Good morning, Pepe! Ok, sure, whatever... |
Why the need to always throw LMVSC under the bus. Could have left last line out. Not with either but there are also good coaches at LMVSC that could be a great opportunity for some of these second team SYC players to play at a higher level and be developed into stronger players which could also be good for them instead of staying on the second team playing against lesser competition. |

I find it hard to believe that SYC players getting bumped down will have opportunities to guest play and that there will be opportunities to move between teams during the season. This was not done in SYC prior to Este's arrival and I don't believe it was done at LMVSC while Este was there. To be honest, rare is the club that does this (which is too bad because I think it would benefit the club/kids greatly). And I am not trying to bash either club - this is just a statement of fact.
