Robby said see you Monday to Dana but she didn’t correct him and reveal she was quitting. So maybe she isn’t?

Whitaker using part of the hospital as a home didn’t seem realistic at all. What room was he in? Looked like an unused hospital room with boxes? Weird.

Mohan refusing to go home and her adrenaline rush was creepy to me. Then she used the bathroom which was all bloody and gross and I was confused. How come no one else was being told to go home?

Mel getting the spinal tap was the most satisfying to me.

Overall did feel this episode was boring.

Jake was not a good idea for the show. No one wants to watch a surly charmless teenager.

+1 I’m going to have to agree. It’s just so unrealistic to me.

or maybe too realistic and sort of boring.

The actor just didn't work. We never saw his warmth toward Robby. Only Robby's care for him.

We did see some warmth from Robby to Jake early on in the season, but we had no back story. To me, the idea that he’s that close with the son of a woman he dated for a few years ago a while back just didn’t seem that plausible.

Sorry, I meant we did see warmth from Jake to Robby.

I guess with the style of show, you couldn’t show a daddy son date outside the hospital to demonstrate a relationship. They should’ve had Jake submitted to the hospital for something minor and then maybe in a future season, go nuclear.

Or they could have had Jake be super kind and sympathetic to his old stepdad. Dr Robby could still have the same emotional reaction and guilt without Jake’s brattiness. But then the viewer would root for Jake more too instead of just being bored and annoyed.

Jake is not good looking at all.

I didn't have trouble accepting Robby's relationship with Jake just like I didn't have trouble accepting the idea that Collins and Robby had a romantic relationship in the past, or that Robby's frustration/anger with Langdon over the drugs was premised on years of mentoring him and trusting him and feeling betrayed. I also didn't have trouble accepting that Langdon had a wife and kids at home, that McKay had some kind of altercation with her ex and his girlfriend that led to her being stuck with an ankle monitor, etc. I don't see why the Jake/Robby relationship would be more outlandish than that.

If you have and divorced people in your family who have kids, especially if you have a single moms who have raised kids mostly on their own, that relationship would seem that outlandish to you. It's just the reality of someone with a kid having a long term relationship with another person -- your kid winds up having a relationship with them too. From what we know about Robby, it's realistic that he would choose to stay in Jake's life even after splitting with Jake's mom, and would wind up playing an uncle-type role in his life.

Having said that, I have mixed feelings about the storyline of Robby working on Jake's girlfriend and then her dying, and Jake blaming Robby, and this being what pushes Robby over the edge. But that's because I found it improbably that Jake would happen to be going to this festival, that his GF would be shot, that they'd wind up at the Pitt, that Robby would be outside when they pulled up and would be the one to work on her, etc. That part strains credulity.

The idea that Robby has a relationship with the teenage son of a woman he dated for several years previously is fine. That sort of thing happens all the time.

If your mother moves on to a new man, you generally don’t keep in contact with her old boyfriend. Look at JLo and ARod - you think ARod is still in contact with Max and Emme, her twins, while she was with Ben Affleck? Hell no. Her twins are busy forging new relationships with her new man (Ben).

Interview with Wyle today about why Dr Collins was missing:

"“Very deep sleeper, that Collins,” Wyle jokes on “The Watch” podcast. He then explains why it was necessary that she remain unreachable for the remainder of Robby’s increasingly taxing shift.

“The whole end of the season is just removing bearing walls from Robby’s life,” Wyle says.

“He leans so heavily on Collins and Langdon, and then you take them both away from him… he leans so heavily on Dana, and then she becomes compromised… and then his one last relationship to Jake is severed when he can’t save his girlfriend.” The thinking was, “let’s take away all this guy’s support system and have him out there [alone].”

If Collins had been there, Wyle says, “I think she would have maybe been one of those voices that could have reached [Robby], and we didn’t want him to be reachable.”

Poor Robby.

Too much about Robby like he’s god and the sun. Is that truly realistic to ER setting? I genuinely don’t know.

Is anyone rooting for an unlikely friendship between Langdon and Santos?

But anyway, I think she is a strong female character on the show who is interesting because she has a more personal (even if not quite equal) relationship with our hero Dr. Robby. And she shows another side to Robby, one showing maybe he had a relationship with a subordinate, which probably isn’t hospital policy, and maybe he wasn’t totally blameless in that relationship failing (maybe because of work, but we don’t know).

I thought their scene together in the back of the ambulance, where Collins confessed she had aborted his baby and not told him because she was afraid he would hate her, and he said he understood, was a real gut punch, something I hadn’t seen before, and fantastic acting by both actors. Bravo. 🙌

Your comment got deleted because you falsely pushed a narrative that people don’t like Collins because she is a “strong black woman” which couldn’t be further from the truth.

DP that likes Collins, has posted about her, and way back called out some implicit bias. People are so wound up with not liking a character they describe as bland and cold (despite her arguably having the most affectionate scenes in the season) that they need to pretend that only one person likes her. It's evident that there are multiple posters that like her, and multiple posters that don't. And the race war comments are weird, because for every post that goes too far with calling MAGA, there's a post insisting that anyone who does like her is trying to start a race war.

I have yet to see someone articulate a real reason why Collins is unlikable or a bad character. In some respects her arc is more subtle, but not in all. And if you don't know a lot about her, you haven't been paying attention, because they've told us a lot about her.

I don't dislike Collins, but I think she brought a lot less personality (what you're terming subtlety) to the show than anyone else, including characters I didn't like, like the guy who punched Dana. Hated him, but he was a bigger character (I don't mean literally) than Collins.

People are allowed to like or dislike characters on TV shows and that's ok. People have given lots of articulate and valid reasons why they don't like her, you just aren't listening to any of them. Again, I don't dislike her, but that doesn't mean I have to disagree with everyone who does.

Yes, I don't like the actor.

Why did you dredge this up from 20 pages ago to start this argument that everyone hated again? Nobody is talking about this anymore because we’re actually tired of blaming one another about it. Just stop.

I literally finished the show last night, read through the thread today while attending a virtual conference, and then commented on that post. You people need to chill the eff out.

Well I feel vindicated! Thank you! This is all I’ve been saying the whole time. But yeah, we have moved on.

I’m hoping Dr. Collins doesn’t return because she’s just so blah.

I hope next season is a complete focus on Dr. Collins and nothing else. Every second of every hour for 15 hours. Follow her into the bathroom and everything. Then the people who dislike her so much will leave the thread and we won’t have to discuss this anymore.
