The Pitt, new HBO Max show w Noah Wyle

Anyone seen this? I watched and liked the first 2 episodes.

I was a big ER fan back in the day, at least the first 6-7 seasons. But it’s not really like ER other than being in a hospital.

It’s being written by some of the same people who are now being sued for it being too similar to ER.

Anyway, worth a watch.

I found the first episode a little slow, but got into it in episode two.

I DO think Noah Wyle's character could be a current day John Carter - by the end of ER he was kind of lost and lonely and I could see his character being like this character in the present day.

Yep, totally can see this. It is like an ER cast but just younger doctors, and Noah wyle is just Dr Greene now.

The energy of ep. 2 was slack, not remotely pacy when in emergency situations, it normally is.

Also a doctor "apologising' was a joke. No doctor ever apologizes for litigious reasons.

Oh wow, I did not know about this show and ER is one of my absolute favorite shows of all time, so it’s like a gift just fell out of the sky. Just seeing/hearing Noah Wyle moving around the ER made me so happy!

The patient stories unfold very much like ER, which I love, but I guess that’s why they’re accused of copying? I really think a 25 year old show like ER should let it go ….

Noah is in his early 50s. Anthony Edwards was in his early 30s when ER started.

This is like Noah being the Morgenstern of ER.

I feel like Noah Wyles work in Falling Skies was not sufficiently recognized. That was a great show and he was really good in it. Plays an American History prof from BU or BC that becomes the reluctant leader of a band of rebels after the earth is taken over by aliens and civilization basically collapses. Great characters and it’s one of the few sci fi shows where it doesn’t stop makkkg sense after a few series. Will Patton who’s that guy you know from everything without knowing his name is one of the other main leads (looked him up recently because he was one of the sheriffs in Silo!). It’s one of those shows I still think about frequently (along with ER although for different reasons!).

But the ER people suing because it’s a hospital is ridiculous. ER was itself very derivative of St Elsewhere, and not that different from its contemporary Chicago Hope with Mandy Patinkin.

I used to love ER although I tried rewatching it again recently and it didn’t age well. Where is it playing?

Any ER-based show can seem similar to ER, that's silly. It's much less glossy and melodramatic so far, all for the good.

Ok I actually thought of Morganstern too but he was not as central a character as dr Greene.

To be fair, it did start as a continuation of ER but negotiations fell through with the Crichton estate. The show runners decided to chuck the ER angle, move the show to Pittsburgh, and rename it. And obviously John Carter, too.

Definitely less melodramatic. The way they cycle through patient stories feels very similar to ER though, which makes sense if it’s the same writers. And the way the medical details are presented, also just feels very ER to me. It’s hard to explain but ER always made the medical dialogue sound so real and this show is similar. A lot of other med shows sound goofier. I am not a doctor so that’s not an expert opinion

Didn’t know that!

There should be a 20-year moratorium on new medical shows. Enough already.
