If you have and divorced people in your family who have kids, especially if you have a single moms who have raised kids mostly on their own, that relationship would seem that outlandish to you. It's just the reality of someone with a kid having a long term relationship with another person -- your kid winds up having a relationship with them too. From what we know about Robby, it's realistic that he would choose to stay in Jake's life even after splitting with Jake's mom, and would wind up playing an uncle-type role in his life.

Having said that, I have mixed feelings about the storyline of Robby working on Jake's girlfriend and then her dying, and Jake blaming Robby, and this being what pushes Robby over the edge. But that's because I found it improbably that Jake would happen to be going to this festival, that his GF would be shot, that they'd wind up at the Pitt, that Robby would be outside when they pulled up and would be the one to work on her, etc. That part strains credulity.

Look at JLo and ARod - you think ARod is still in contact with Max and Emme, her twins, while she was with Ben Affleck? Hell no. Her twins are busy forging new relationships with her new man (Ben).[/quote]
