Predictions for crown high school

Anonymous
Now that we know that crown high school is going to get built, lets talk about what the school will be like! (it is never too early)

What areas/schools do you think will be zoned for it? do you think it'll be a strong school?

I'm fairly certain that fallsgrove, crown, rio/washingtonian, and dufief will be zoned for it. after that, your guess is as good as mine.

I assume that it will slot in between wootton and quince orchard in terms of demographics/quality.

Don’t even try to guess. They haven’t scoped the project yet. It could involve redoing es and ms assignments, and that could mean opening the door to all kids of split metriculation. The only thing we can say for sure is that it will be long and drawn out. We can also count on a major curveballl at the end resulting in all the public input being thrown away and the study work being invalidates. The BOE will then make up their own plans, which will send everybody into a frenzy. The outcome will be a crap shoot.

It will probably take kids at King Farm that attend Gaithersburg HS for one thing.

Seems like Kings Farm is not the closest part of GH to Crown. I thought all of KF will end up at GH

As will be this thread.

Well, the rezoning in the RM cluster was so much fun. I bet Jeff loved how much traffic this site was getting. Same will happen with Crown.

I haven't paid much attention yet so this may have been covered.

I think the first question is where will Crown's middle school be?

Is the property big enough to have MS and HS back to back?

A cluster can take 3 or 4 ESs from the 3 or 4 closest HSs but unless

one of the clusters near it has 2 MS AND one on the outskirts near

the new school, you need to build a MS too.

it seems like RM and QO are the 2 most overutilized HS that is being considered to be rezoned, they will probably take most from these two, although QO might also be renovated. They might get some from Wooton and GH but they are not really in the same overutilization mark as RM and QO.

I think they will shy away from moving kids out of Wooton.. We can see the priorities by what happened in RM cluster. Big win for RP. Small loss for WG.

If you want to speculate, go for it, but I'd compare the speculations to the speculations of someone who purchases a powerball ticket and talks about what what they'll do with their windfall: neither will happen. Besides, MCPS always manages to do the unknowable and sometimes the unthinkable.

I think one thing is for sure. They will build a school. Three years later, the school will be over capacity and they will add on portables. Just IMHO.

I predict that when you look that the zoning and squint it will look like a starfish.

By the time they build the new high school in Crown, most people on this board will have kids finishing high school and moving on to college. They will not care at all.

I think Twinbrook should be zoned for Wootton. It's not that further than Fallsgrove is to RM.

Dufief and Stone Mill from Wootton can be sent to Crown.

Fields from QO to Crown.

There's a tiny section west of 270 zoned for Gaithersburg HS that should be zoned for Crown.

This will even out FARMs much better between all those HS.

Entire CG and Fallsgrove may move to Crown Farm from RM cluster.
