FCPS's "reduced quality of public education due to the illegal situation"

Anonymous
If you believe that FCPS or another VA school system has experienced "reduced quality of public education due to the illegal situation" (as someone commented on in another thread), can you please provide some stats to factually illustrate how big of an issue this really is? I have not been able to find any information to support this claim.

Specifically:
1) Name a school currently impacted.

2) What % of students there are "illegal"?

Anonymous
Is it as bad in FCPS as it is in MCPS? MCPS has absolutely had a negative impact from increased illegal immigration. Overcrowded class sizes, less money in the budget, etc.

How do you propose anyone finds this information? Schools aren't allowed to inquire about a student's legal status.

Almost everything about illegal aliens is based on estimates instead of facts, since illegals are first and foremost illegally present in our country.

Ok. So if no one even knows if there are "illegal aliens" in the schools then how is it such a problem?

Teachers know. Anyone who has been teaching for 10+ years has seen decline.

Teachers are told to “differentiate” instruction. It’s possible, but it is causing many talented, hard-working teachers to leave the profession.
It is next to impossible to meet the needs of all the learners in a given classroom - especially when some of them do not even speak the language.
Not only do many of these students not speak English, many are illiterate in their native tongue.

There is no way I could be an effective teacher today.

This. Emphasis mine. Also, these students have parents who are also illiterate in their native language.

Or, they are legally emancipated; that is, there IS no adult guardian.

And, we have 17 or 18 year old freshman or sophomores

Also, if you'd like to know who receives free and reduced price lunches, ask your elementary student. Your student notices and observes.

And, even older teen high school students who can't speak or understand any English. None. How do they graduate?

Ask any FCPS high school student. The "Hispanic kids" all hang out and do not affiliate in any way with non Hispanic students.

Forget assimilation. We're back to segregation in some ways.

Sounds like you are all complaining about ESOL and/or FARMs kids. The vast majority of which are here legally BTW.

Doesn't matter. The numbers of ESOl and or FARMS kids have increased significantly. This is a drain on resources.

And, the fact is, it does cost more to adequately educate a non native English speaker than an native English speaker. I'm not complaining, I'm simply stating facts.

You may want to include anchor babies, they have the same issues as illegals

That's a different issue than "illegals" though.

Plenty of other posters complaining and saying that it's driving their votes in various elections.

So all of the "illegals are destroying our schools" whining is just BS. You just don't like ESOL. Got it.

Wow. Tell us, do your children attend a school in Bailey's Crossroads? Annandale? Herndon? Chantilly? If they do not, then STFU. Your opinion doesn't matter unless your children are actually affected by the majority ESOL kids who attend so many FCPS schools. God, sanctimonious liberals are the *worst*.

+1. I would bet my bottom dollar that this PP's kids attend an expensive private school, probably somewhere in NW.

There is no way that education can be effective and fiscally attainable when some jurisdictions across the country are dealing with hundreds of different native languages. It.just.cant.be.done. Everyone suffers.
