FCPS's "reduced quality of public education due to the illegal situation"

Wow. Tell us, do your children attend a school in Bailey's Crossroads? Annandale? Herndon? Chantilly? If they do not, then STFU. Your opinion doesn't matter unless your children are actually affected by the majority ESOL kids who attend so many FCPS schools. God, sanctimonious liberals are the *worst*.

So say that you want solutions to high ESOL #s. Don't put terrible candidates like Trump into office over "illegals". You're not actually addressing your actual concern.

It is so disingenuous to claim that 99% of ESOL students aren't here illegally. Give us all a break. Trump was elected in large part because he promised to do something about illegal immigration - and he is keeping that promise. That's the solution to high ESOL #'s, though you can deny it until you're blue in the face.

I would just love for the liberals defending high ESOL #'s (read: illegal immigrants) to have to send their snowflakes to majority Spanish speaking schools, which simply don't have the resources to serve all the kids, much less the average English speaking ones. We'd never hear the end of their outrage.

What % of those students are "illegal"?

Hey, I'm a 100k accountant with a 400k house. Of course I send my kids to high ESOL schools.

Oh wait. I just make up different personas to make a point. Oh wait. That's not me, that's some dumb Trump supporter who really lives in McLean and has 1% ESOL at the neighborhood school.

Fairfax is being bankrupted by ESOL AND SPECIAL EDUCATION. Pretty simple to google this

Special Needs kids, and ESOL people know this and are/have been flocking to FCPS

Most active people don't talk about this because they are content to game the system through the AAP system which also costs $$

The average normal kids are getting screwed which ironically is the opposite of what usually happens in public schools who typically handle the middle well and not the top and bottom

Why would someone who was born here and grew up their entire life in the US school system have problems with language? I know they may not speak English at home, but all their time in school and with classmates from age 5 and up will be in English.

Damn those autistic kinds and down syndrome kids. Tell them to go be disabled somewhere else!

There is only so much money in the school system budget. It’s impossible to deal with the high WSOL numbers and also adequately provide resources for everything else.

Agree that this is exactly why Trump was elected. I did not vote for him but if he does keep his promises on curbing illegal immigration, then I would absolutely consider voting for him the next time.

The effects of illegal immigration are evident to me on a daily basis. Day in and day out. It’s more important to me than abortion (I’m pro-choice) and more important to me than many other issues that politicians focus on. Illegal immigration has affected me and my family in a way that some of those other issues have not.

Yes. I get dumped on when I mention this, but my elderly parents have lost half their home's equity due to the declining schools overrun with illegal immigrants. There are real, actual costs to American taxpayers when an area is over-populated with non-English speakers, and not just those who have kids who have to go to the public school.

And I agree with you on abortion. I'm pro-choice, since it doesn't impact me (or anyone else) when a woman terminates a pregnancy. But having schools where 45% of the kids are ESOL (some areas of northern Virginia, like Manasses, have this problem), it brings down the pace and complexity of classes. Schoolchildren in these areas are at a big disadvantage when compared to schools with lower ESOL percentages.

I don't really understand how you think this problem can be solved without investing more $$ in schools - which, yes, means more taxes. If your plan is to literally round up and deport every illegal immigrant, chances are you'll still be leaving behind a lot of kids (the lovely term 'anchor babies' that previous PP used - though most of those these days are Chinese and Russian, if you actually do your research) who still merit an education. Alternately, you'll leave (according to your 45% theory) nearly-half-empty schools, which will still cost money to maintain, heat/cool, etc., but with a lowered local tax base to support that. A closed school isn't any better for property values than one with *gasp* a lot of ESOL kids. The legal status or native language of the children are not the problem - a refusal of the local populace to pay enough taxes to maintain the necessary staffing ratios and provide the desired level of instruction is the problem.

Re: your parents' property values...unless they bought in the early oughts, I highly doubt their "loss" is real $$ and not just on paper. Can you name other, actual facets of your life in the DMV that have been negatively impacted by immigration?

Nobody in this thread ever said they have been impacted by immigration! Repeat after me: ILLEGAL immigrants.

How do you propose anyone finds this information? Schools aren't allowed to inquire about a student's legal status.

Almost everything about illegal aliens is based on estimates instead of facts, since illegals are first and foremost illegally present in our country.

If they are poor and a parent speaks Spanish, they much be illegal. Duh. /s

I'm a child of immigrants and 100% support LEGAL immigration. Hate when people do not distinguish between Legal and Illegal immigration.

I don't care what country they come from - China/Russia/El Salvador/Guatemala. If they are here illegally, they are a problem.
