A journalist has obtained the book reviews of some of the books that have been banned in Duval County. One of those banned books is The Best Man, by Richard Peck, a Newberry Award-winning author. The book has been banned because a gay relationship and wedding between 2 men is portrayed.
https://popular.info/p/this-book-is-considered-pornography Yet Common Sense Media found nothing even approaching pornography in the book. https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews/the-best-man It's obviously being banned because of its (tame) LGBTQ content. |
The GOP wants gays back in the closet. |
This is exactly what we knew would happen. |
They're not just going after LGBTQ people and the teaching of black history, now they're dabbling in banning the teaching of scientific theories.
"A bill in the state Legislature seeking to regulate science curriculum in public schools got its first hearing Monday. The legislation’s sponsor says by banning scientific theories, the policy aims to prevent kids from being taught things that aren’t true." https://www.mtpr.org/montana-news/2023-02-07/bill-would-ban-the-teaching-of-scientific-theories-in-montana-schools |
How far would that Josh Duggar-looking Emerich go with this? Technically, we don’t know why gravity is; could teachers not teach gravity? Obviously the smug moron is jonesing to get the Bible - the “truth” - taught in schools and evolution would be out, but the extremists are already in support of dumbing down students via banning books; how far are they willing to go to make kids grow up as stupid as they are? |
Technically, math is theoretical. Better make sure we keep that out of school. |
Math is getting banned because its racist, not because its theoretical. |
Yup. Every accusation is a confession, chapter 239 Northland school book ban advocate now facing child molestation charge https://www.kmbc.com/amp/article/northland-school-book-ban-advocate-ryan-utterback-child-molestation-charge/38927670 |
This isn't new. They've always protested science: evolution, sex ed, climate change. They're expanding subjects and trying to make it official policy on a larger scale, where it used to be more for local districts. It's like they want us all to be dumb now, since they chose that for themselves. |
+1 But their numbers are small. Keep pushing back on this, people - it’s not American, it’s not normal, and it’s not popular. |
Books on climate change are next.

Keep them kids dumb! |
Can’t. Breathe. Too Much Irony.
“This week, a principal evoked outrage from the larger community after ordering a librarian to remove posters with a quote from Elie Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor, peace activist and author. Central Bucks High School South librarian Matt Pecic said on Wednesday a principal ordered him to remove four posters with Wiesel’s quote because they violated the new policy. The quote is from Wiesel’s 1986 Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech: “I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” https://whyy.org/articles/pa-central-bucks-librarian-told-to-remove-holocaust-survivor-quote-advocacy-policy/ p.s. this is suburban Philadelphia. Not the Bible Belt. |
Not sure why you think “this is suburban Philadelphia” is some winning argument. As you should be able to infer from this op ed by the non-crazy members of the school board https://www.inquirer.com/opinion/commentary/central-bucks-school-district-lgbtq-bias-policy-20230118.html the school board has been taken over by right wing nuts. So them telling the librarian to take down an Elie Wiesel quote (FFS) is just more Republican fascism. |
