Yeah, first person in us has died - Washington State

Was this person confirmed before death or after?

We don't know yet.

Washington State so far has reported only two cases, one a woman who had traveled from Daegu and the other the teenager who contracted as a result of community spread. I believe the woman was recuperating at home; not sure about the teenager.

BNO News says that Washington State will report at least two new cases and a death. The death could be among the newly identified cases.

^^Actually, re-reading the media advisory, it looks like the death was from the newly identified cases.

Which is scary because neither was old or immune-compromised.

If the death is from the newly identified cases, we know nothing about their situation because no information has been released about them.

Why does PP think the death was someone "young and healthy"?

NBC is reporting it's a 19 year old who died.

This is a 1:44 update from NBC on the story. It says no details available.

Please post your source.

The kid was at school then had chills, fever, etc. at one point went back to class. They are disinfecting high school this weekend. They have released that they have zero idea how he contracted it because didn’t fit any risk or travel factors.

He had chills? Fever? Big deal. That does not explain why they tested him. Half the people I know have had these symptoms recently.

I don't see anywhere in that story that states who the person that died is. Am I missing it? Says the press conference at 4pm will have more details.

The Trump press conference just stated it was a women in her 50s.

President just said at briefing the woman who died overnight was in her fifties and medically compromised (assuming that means had significant pre-existing conditions).

Level 4 travel advisory to parts of Italy and parts of South Korea. Plus screenings at airports in those countries before passengers board flights to US.

Ban on any foreign national that has been to Iran in the past 14 days.
Anonymous
President also said four people are seriously ill.

BNO News tracker list only 1, so it looks like the number of critical cases in the US has increased.

Not the PP but I know for a fact doctors in this area aren’t testing for it. I know a guy who got sick a few weeks ago, went to the doctor, negative for the flu. Got a bit better but Friday ended up back at the doctor with suspected pneumonia. Diagnosed negative for pneumonia and sent home with meds. He’s not “high risk” for Covid 19 but is immuno-compromised. Never tested. In the past few weeks this guy has traveled domestically and worked at a professional conference. And gone to work and gone about his daily life. He’s like anyone else in their area or even in this county who gets sick. They feel well enough to keep on keeping on (or don’t want to burn sick leave) so they go about their daily lives.

Our federal agency has cancelled all travel to South Korea. As of now still allowing travel to Singapore.

Head of CDC just said at presser that the woman was a case of community spread.

With people hoarding hand sanitizer, it will only make the situation worse.

And going out in public when they are sick...

Exactly. Sick people MUST stay home,
unless they’re going to see a doctor.

Basic common sense, people.

Everyone with those symptoms should see a doctor now? Not sure our doctors can handle that load of patients.

We don’t typically go to the doctor just for fever/chills/cough.

Buckle up. Yikes. Anyone know if Virginia has a plan /mechanism to test? Wondering about proactively keeping the kid out of preschool.

Except people spread this while they don’t feel sick and are contagious 12-24 hours after catching it. That means if you catch it at the office on Monday, on Tuesday you give it to your family, on Wednesday they spread it to their school and workplaces, and on Thursday those people spread it. All this while feeling fine. This is why China had to take draconian steps. Short those steps, it’s uncontainable and likely is even with those steps taken since not every nation will do it. To make matters worse, we aren’t learning from Wuhan. In a few weeks we will have more people that need hospitalization than we have beds. It’s why Wuhan has a 5% fatality rate.
