PP here. You aren't doing all those things, but those are things that teachers I know are doing. I'm not saying they should or shouldn't, but part of my point is they can. Personally I have no problem with eating in a restaurant or doing travel, but right now I'd probably avoid very large crowds. So as long as anybody can still do those things it doesn't make sense to close the schools. Schools should be one of the last places to close. |
Chap Petersen basically promised #openFCPS the bolded last summer. Every D delegate will be breathing down the necks of our SB to keep things open this fall, at least through Election Day. |
Got to be a troll. The person seems to come out in force at night while much of DCUM is sleeping. |
To be fair, restrictions were lifted before school even ended last year and only recently are things getting iffy again. Can’t fault people for living their lives which was “allowed.” |
There is a discussion about how nervous everyone is. |
Curious if these were teachers who were in person in spring? I was nervous (despite believing being in-person was the right thing and intellectually knowing the risks were low) until I set foot in school and then it was easy to be there. I have been assuming this year would be similar. You just have to do it. |
+1 Pathetic MAGA troll trying to push the Trumphumper candidate. |
Not just the state delegates. The entire National party is watching this (it helps being close to DC). McAuliffe is as hooked into DNC leadership as you can get. He isn’t going to let the incompetence of Karl Freish and Laura Cohen screw his chance at a 2nd term or give the GOP a opening for midterms. |
I’m not a teacher but most teachers I know seem pretty positive about this year. Generally wanting to go back and recognizing that in person school is the best for everyone, though there is some nervousness. It’s the parents who are trying to torpedo the openings at this point. A nervous parent just started a change.org petition to petition FCPS to bring back the “virtual option” for everyone who wants it until kids can be vaccinated. Aka “staff two school systems in the middle of a labor shortage in a state that is very friendly to homeschoolers.” |
The bolded made me laugh so hard because it's so true. |
| The teachers aren’t the nervous ones. Parents of elementary schoolers are nervous and wanting a virtual option. |
Sigh. I’m a Democrat, have been for 20 years. I voted for all the current school board members & Northam. I donated $2k to Biden / Harris last year and have donated regularly to Gerry Connolly, Megan McLaughlin, James Walkinshaw and Chap Peterson. I think Trump was the most destructive force in American political history and think his hard core followers are idiots and personally I wouldn’t care at all if most of them died from COVID. I also enthusiastically signed the recall of Omeish, and will happily vote for and donate to Youngkin if schools aren’t open 5 days a week. I think Terry McAuliffe was a great Governor, but VA Dems and Fairfax Dems especially need a reality check. Being a Democrat means running government well, and the current FCPS school board couldn’t run a semi truck through a wet paper bag. Youngkin isn’t some Trump disciple and if your actually believe that then you need to work on your critical thinking. Hopefully the school board gets out of it’s own way, schools open, TMac moves back to Richmond and we can all move on, but it’s going to be a huge test over the next three months. |
| Yes, it's a handful of crazy parents. You can see it on this board as well. |
I have a 1st grader and kindergartner. We did virtual K last year. The only thing I am nervous about is the no talent ass clowns on the school board once again caving to teacher associates and forcing us back into virtual. Home school your weirdo bubble kids if the thought of in person education truly scares you. |
I hope your children aren’t assh*les like you. |
