Well there are teachers shocked we are starting in person. |
That's the job. Shouldn't be that shocking, really. |
PP here. I imagine they are a minority. |
No, because they are completely made up numbers |
I figure if we can eat indoors, vacation in groups, go to the gym, attend baseball games with tens of thousands, attend concerts with thousands of people, fly to Disney, fly to Europe, party on Bourbon St., etc. we can start school in person. ES Teacher |
Teacher here. I want to be back in person but am extremely nervous to have 24-30 kids not socially distanced in a classroom. I think most teachers would feel better if we knew what the actual plan is if x,y or z occur. I personally think they need to have a better plan for lunch. They should also avoid unnecessary events like Open House or do it by session to avoid crowds. Every teacher I know is looking forward to being live with kids, but we are nervous about the unknowns. If FCPS actually released a plan beyond vaccinations and masks, I would feel 100 percent better |
This was true before Delta became prevalent. The science suggests that (1) it is much more easily transmissible, (2) younger kids are more affected by it than they were earlier strains and (3) vaccinated people can catch it and spread it. The reality has changed--that doesn't mean that school needs to be virtual, but more precautions need to take place, particularly around the lunch rooms. |
| I, too, want to be back in person. Last year was exhausting. I am on the teacher FB group and I haven’t seen any posts about teachers wanting to start virtual nor have I heard anyone from my school say this. |
| Man any teacher calling for virtual start needs to GTFO. I’m a teacher and last year almost took all of us out. Kids, teachers, admin, parents. It’s a no. Cannot do again. No reasonable person wants virtual. They for real need to quit this time if they STILL can’t stomach going into school . The rest of us are going. |
Delta is prevalent now while we (teachers) are doing all of those things now. My point is if we can do all of those things while Delta is here, we can teach in person. Wouldn't it be hypocritical to say otherwise? |
+1 Same. |

All of these “concerned” posts are from the same one or two people. Either a troll or a teacher with a long commute who is super pissed they have to go to work.
Delta cases are down 70% in the UK, 90% in India and are starting to turn over in southern states now. The Delta “surge” will be on a steep downward slope right around when schools start here. https://twitter.com/scottgottliebmd/status/1423026055049273345?s=21 The only way Youngkin has a chance this fall is if he makes huge gains in Fairfax / Loudon. The only way that happens is if schools are closed. This is a off year election and every Democrat in the country will be watching. The national party won’t let a couple of yahoo’s on the school board blow this election by letting schools to close. We’ll be fine, enjoy the last few weeks of summer |
Oh, absolutely it would be hypocritical for teachers to do all those things and then not go in person. But for those of us NOT doing those things to protect our unvaccinated kids, it's a different story. Things were different before Delta too....it almost seemed like things were back to normal. But the risk analysis is different now. |
I am not doing all those things. We are still in a pandemic. |
And by the way, I don’t do all those things because I am going to teach in person. I really wish people would stop treating the world as if it were their playground. |
