Prince Philip has died...

Beatrice just got married less than a year ago - Edo shouldn't be going. The Duchess of Gloucester worked alongside Phillip for decades.

OH MY GOD.

Its been reported that the COUNTESS MOUNTBATTEN OF BURMA is on the official guest list of 30.

That's PENNY. The mistress. The affair. The girlfriend. WTF. Her husband (Phillip's actual grand-nephew) is not invited. Unbelievable.

I'm not sure why you're getting hysterical about this. Penny is a close friend of both the Queen and Prince Philip; she has been invited to multiple, multiple, multiple BRF events sans husband. I mean if she can come to the balcony for the Trooping of Colors, she can definitely come to the funeral! The Queen isn't scandalized - why are you?

I think its more the fact that Penny was invited as the head of the Mountbatten family when the actual head and Phillip's blood relation is still alive and in the U.K.

It'd be like the German relations sending the mistress instead of the descendant.

P.S. Penny was on the balcony with her mother-in-law who was the actual head of the family (Patricia inherited the title)

Well...there was that little matter of her husband fleeing to the Bahamas to have his own affair for what was it, five years? And Penny taking over the management of the estate and telling everyone that despite their master's absence, life will continue as before and she'll take care of everything. The Queen was said to be highly approving of her conduct in the face of such embarrassment. So I wouldn't be surprised if the Queen considers Penny, not her husband, to be the head of the family.

Okay good people of DCUM.. what's with the uniforms????? More and more this looks like the funeral is being downgraded and downgraded and downgraded...
While the covid took care of the size of the ceremony, there are those other things like.. the very informal car that will carry him which is very informal, and now the uniforms down the tubes.. It almost looks like someone does not like his funeral to be fancy.
Yes, yes.. I know .. I hear you saying.... this was his wish.. but we also know that the guy was pretty self center and it is hard to believe that it truly was his choice but of course once a person is gone, you can never prove anyone wrong..

Royals may wear suits at Prince Philip’s funeral, not military uniform

Members of the Royal Family will break with the usual tradition and not wear their military uniforms at the funeral for the Duke of Edinburgh. It is understood that the Queen approved this move, which means that Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Andrew will be wearing suits to Saturday’s ceremony. Under the original plan, Prince Harry was faced with being one of the only close relatives not to be wearing uniform, despite having served in the Army in Afghanistan, as he lost his honorary titles after quitting royal duties.

Protocol suggests that he can only wear a suit with his medals.

Rumor is the Queen didn't want to hurt Harry's feefees and decided that if he can't wear his uniform, then by golly, no one else will, either.

Who believes that the whole uniform business is truly a sign of solidarity with Harry.. the same Harry! that they "suppose to despise" after the very interview? If it is a display of empathy then it is very unexpected and also hard to sell... considering the past performances.
So now the Royal protocol of the funeral took sharp turn to cater to Harry's emotions and feelings and all of the sudden the central person to the funeral is.. less important...

Which I personally, regret, because William is quite yummy in uniform.

I've always thought Penny and Diana looked like twins, they were 12 years apart in age too. Phillip picked the wife for Charles that he would have chosen for himself.

Right? If the Queen is okay with it, why should anyone else be offended?

I also think that this is a very rough cut excuse to not to adorn a miltary men's funeral by military uniforms.... but I don't know why.

I also think I entirely don't care if they wear uniforms or not and I am totally fine with them doing whatever they want.

But I certainly like most like to call a bluff when I see one.

The uniform thing was about Andrew. He asked to wear an admiral's suit and the outrage was uniform. So he wasn't getting what he wanted and on top of that he/Harry would have been the only royals without active military service not in uniform while the rest of the royals looked like idiots dressed up with 4 weeks in marine training between them.

If Phillip had died at a more 'convenient' time he would have gotten all the flash bang-bang of the Queen Mother's 200,000 person funeral. But 125,000 people have died in 12 months in the UK (its only 2nd to the US in Covid death rates) and because of Covid restrictions they were only allowed to have 4 mourners. Most of them didn't even get to see their relative in person before they died.

Hence -- the problems with Phillip's funeral.

I know, right! All those straw positions..

Oh, for all those who watched The Crown.. do you remember that scene in the first season.. was it the first episode?.. when
Prince Phillip had his uniform fitting and he was kind of sarcastic during the process.. He said something like.. "it is not uniform it is a costume, you wear uniform to the battle.. this is just a costume" more less..

I can't help but to think how things changed because all his life he loved to parade in the uniforms because if you ask me they look pretty hot.. Then again as he said in another episode when he learn how to fly finally.. remember?

I am really having hard time to believe that he would not want to have full gala at his funeral, even if it were trimmed by covid.

It truly seems like someone is getting back at him this last time..

Wait, without the royal titles and blah de blah Harry is still a veteran - he couldn’t wear a dress uniform just for that?
