No, eventually, with more testing, there will be fewer cases. At least, that's what we want to see. We don't want ever-increasing cases, we don't want herd immunity.

But the number of cases in New York has decreased.

NEW YORK REPORTS 437 NEW DEATHS, 12 STRAIGHT DAYS OF DECLINE IN CORONAVIRUS HOSPITALIZATIONS
BY EDDY RODRIGUEZ ON 4/25/20 AT 1:35 PM EDT

This is correct. The reason we are seeing the prolonged high plateau of deaths is other states are peaking. Texas just had its highest death toll yesterday.

not really peaking, just starting the ascent.

You may be right.

It's almost as if ... we're all 2 weeks behind NY.

New Jersey is also on the decline:

So is Louisiana:

Florida's graph even looks like it is trending downwards:

It never seems to have occurred to Trump that a competent response to the crisis would bolster his reelection chances, all he knows is the con, evading responsibility, pointing fingers, doing nothing but feeding his faithful bullshit.

Just provide testing and a little compassion, let the pandemic experts call the shots and coast to 2020 victory.

But no, instead, we have 70,000+ dead, a 20% unemployment rate and millions of lives directly impacted.

I keep saying that exact thing. Handling this well would have helped HIM in addition to helping us. Also - just making sure supplies and testing got everywhere it was needed, funneling resources to the states, would have been a campaign gift from gd for him. But he got in his own way. And now it's bleach IVs for everyone - that's the plan.

The heartland is getting hit - KS, NE, MN, IA, and now KY are having days with 8%+ case growth.

Also even if Trump couldn't manage testing, he could've tried to use the pandemic to justify a freeze on impeachment and blame China for everything from Feb 10 onwards. Instead he just denied for weeks to his and the country's detriment.

This. Not a single leader did the hydroxychloroquine, or bleach con.

The Fed poured trillions into the market. He only needs a tiny fraction of that to boost testing, hire millions of unemployed as contact tracers, and set up extensive quarantine programs.

Then he can reopen safely.

I really don't get it. Why NOT put federal money into making testing widely available? Why not hire all the census workers who couldn't go door to door because of the virus to be contact tracers - and more? Put people to work! Keep us safe! Use federal money - it's not YOU paying for it you fcking dumb sht Trump, it's us; spend like it's OUR money not yours, and you still reap the rewards. Is that so hard?

It's really not that difficult. If he still doesn't get it, give a call to NZ or South Korea. But the work is hard. It requires them to do lots of detailed, coordinated work in a massive scale. He has not done any hard work in his entire life whether in school, business, or government. He has done a lot of con which is easy.

What is clear to many of us is that he would be slammed by the left for whatever response he comes up with.

Had he closed things down earlier - he would have been criticized for ruining the economy for no reason.
Had he waited, he would have been criticized for "more deaths."

What is clear is that the left will blame him for any deaths related to the virus AND blame him for any issues with the economy.

Truth is.... he made good decisions early on. Early estimates were that deaths in the US could exceed 2 million. We won't even come close.
He has been praised by Fauci, Birx, Cuomo, and Newsome. Also, by many other governors.
Had some governors (ahem, Cuomo) made better decisions when it came to nursing homes, we would be in a much better place in terms of death count.

CDC struggled with testing early on, but that has gotten better. If you need a test, you can get a test unless your governor has not done what he/she needs to do to get the tests and testing sites up and running.

Contact tracing is a whole different issue. Accurate contact tracing depends upon the individuals being honest about their activity and not minding others delving into their lives. Major privacy issues. And, using technology to assist in this effort could be deemed unconstitutional.

All in all, I am happy with the response of the federal government and my state governor. My state is open for business, as it should be.

CDC stats aren't that alarming. Plus, the COVID (as in only COVID) deaths include underlying issues. So if I died from a heart attack but had COVID, it's listed as covid. There's a COVID +pneumonia, too.

Did you see how VA was testing? lol
If you are tested three times, and your results are three positives, you're added to the dbase as three different stats.

This is blown out of proportion.

You are absolutely wrong. the calls against shutting the economy down are coming from trump and the right/billionaires.

If Fauci tells the American public in January that this is an issue, the liberals, at least, would be listening.

We won't come close to 2 million 1) because we have been social distancing and 2) if a vaccine is developed and made available by next spring. As it is, using the 3,000 per day death figure, we will be at a million deaths by the end of next winter. If people don't social distance and take precautions, it may still get to 2 million AND we will have wrecked the economy.

Ultimately, Trump can try to deflect from China all he wants. It doesn't change this timeline:

You idiots spent eight years relentlessly attacking Obama about EVERYTHING - including pursuing claim after claim that he wasn't even born in America. And he still managed to do his job.

In this highly partisan country - where Trump is partially responsible for MAKING it so toxically partisan - you don't get to whine about the fact that not everyone loves what you're doing, as an excuse for not doing your job.

It's a partisan country. If you still choose to run for president, that's what you've got. We aren't going to love or approve of you, Trump, after you acted like such a POS at every opportunity. Tough sht! DO YOUR JOB.

Hope you feel better after your rant.
As I said, I am satisfied with the response of the federal govt. and my state governor. Too bad other governors have not responded as well.

When is "early on" to you? For me, it is early January. There were public news reports about this at the time, and as president, he clearly had to have intel reports before that. So, when does your clock start? In December/Jan or March?

And other than a ban that wasn't a ban, what did Trump do? Nothing. He called it a democratic political hoax. He said it would go away. He did nothing to prepare the American public, did nothing to ramp up production of needed supplies. Nothing. We STILL don't have the testing capability we need to 're-open" safely.
