What is clear to many of us is that he would be slammed by the left for whatever response he comes up with. Had he closed things down earlier - he would have been criticized for ruining the economy for no reason. Had he waited, he would have been criticized for "more deaths." What is clear is that the left will blame him for any deaths related to the virus AND blame him for any issues with the economy. Truth is.... he made good decisions early on. Early estimates were that deaths in the US could exceed 2 million. We won't even come close. He has been praised by Fauci, Birx, Cuomo, and Newsome. Also, by many other governors. Had some governors (ahem, Cuomo) made better decisions when it came to nursing homes, we would be in a much better place in terms of death count. CDC struggled with testing early on, but that has gotten better. If you need a test, you can get a test unless your governor has not done what he/she needs to do to get the tests and testing sites up and running. Contact tracing is a whole different issue. Accurate contact tracing depends upon the individuals being honest about their activity and not minding others delving into their lives. Major privacy issues. And, using technology to assist in this effort could be deemed unconstitutional. All in all, I am happy with the response of the federal government and my state governor. My state is open for business, as it should be.
When is "early on" to you? For me, it is early January. There were public news reports about this at the time, and as president, he clearly had to have intel reports before that. So, when does your clock start? In December/Jan or March? And other than a ban that wasn't a ban, what did Trump do? Nothing. He called it a democratic political hoax. He said it would go away. He did nothing to prepare the American public, did nothing to ramp up production of needed supplies. Nothing. We STILL don't have the testing capability we need to 're-open" safely.
