Actually, they have run a very successful program for kids at Bancroft in the summer for years. Stop overdoing the dramatics and focus on the facts here. |
Horizons is a great program and Maret is a great school. But does that relate to the field?
|
I’m at my kids soccer practice on a professional size field in DC at 8 pm, and there are seven separate teams practicing. Shows how in demand fields are, and how amazing it is that Maret monopolizes the prime hours for one or two teams. It’s a city, land is precious! And valuable. |
Ask the principal of Bancroft who is trying to argue that because they do good things for the community sometimes we should ignore that they are acting like poor community citizens with respect for Jelleff. |
+1. Some idiots on the private school forum are trying to argue that without the Maret deal Jelleff would be sitting empty. Shows how little they know about public facilities, the field near me (not Jelleff) is always busy with kid and adult leagues. |
Actually you can. This is what happens at the tiny Hardy field, courtesy of the Maret deal. But hey, you're saying that's not all dc has given this crowd - there are more fields seized for the critical after school window? |
What I'm saying is that another school isn't going to rent to Maret. |
And? |
It’s a private school, so that’s not my problem, or the city’s problem. |
+1. Maret has committed about $1 million total over the next 10 years to Jeleff. Someone will rent them a field every weekday for $100k/year...it just may be a field in Gaithersburg rather than Georgetown for that price and the Maret kids will learn how the Hardy kids feel when they have to travel 1 hr to a game. |
Or ... they can buy land in PG county and make their own sports complex there. Done. https://www.redfin.com/MD/Suitland/3910-Old-Branch-Ave-20746/home/10606205 |
when will the inspector general get involved |
When will Mayor Bowser offer some kind of comment? |
Is corruption at this level really legal? |
There are so many empty fields in DC because the neighbors put restrictions on use. The St Pats field off Foxhall Road(it’s a really nice field...because it hardy ever gets used) and the large grass field by Georgetown(off Reservoir Road between 38th and 39th Street) come to mind. They are empty every evening and weekend. I know the St Pats field can not be used because of the neighbors and the same with the Georgetown field. I heard the Georgetown field just got transferred from DCPS to the park department. Maybe Maret would fix up that field and put lights in? I bet it’s the same people who are screaming about Maret using Jeelleff who scream about restricting the field use by their homes- NIMBY rules! Yeah DC! |
