Hard to say. She try to get into one pub but was turned away for some reason (under age, too impaired, whatever). From there she got lost trying to find another party. It's also possible that she was planning to meet up with the much older JM and knew that her friends wouldn't approve so she didn't mention him to them..

If JM wasn't charged with a crime, why / how did he ask for a lawyer?
And was he granted one?

Why did he flee Charlottesville? He looks creepy ... And acts guilty!

What exactly looks creepy about him? I think he looks perfectly nice. Is it the blackness? The dreads? Come on. He's being sought by police in a country where black people are persecuted and prosecuted and convicted more than whites. I'd be freaked out, too. Not saying he's not guilty, just that I don't think he looks creepy and that he may just be freaked out.

I am sure those dreads are gone by now.

If he did something to Hannah, don't you think he would have done that or fled in the entire WEEK in between Hannah's disappearance, and the police taking an interest in him?

It makes no sense. I think the police are getting tunnel vision and missing other information.

No. The guy that did nothing came forward immediately and talked to the police. Those that have things to hide run.

That's my point. He didn't run immediately even though tons of people saw them together and recognized him.

He never suspected it would be caught on video.

With this "secretly dating JM" theory, the thread has officially jumped the shark.

PLease. She texted her friends that she was lost. That doesn't sound like someone on their way to a predetermined meeting place.

There is clearly only one person propagating that theory.

Right - but you aren't really making sense. There were witnesses. He was with her in a crowded bar and walking on streets full of people in a small town where he was a fixture.

Quite possible that if he killed her, it wasn't premeditated. He made a pass and she resisted and he got angry.

OBVIOUSLY. No one (or very few people) thinks he would plan to kill her, then take her to a crowded bar where they'd be seen. The point is that if he killed her, accidentally, it seems likely he would have run immediately, rather than sticking around in a town where a lot of people saw them together.

If he ran immediately, that would certainly raise suspicion.

This thread jumped the shark a while ago. The theories are just getting even more bizarre with a whole bunch of armchair detectives speculating on every conceivable scenario no matter how far-fetched.

Just a couple pages ago she was supposedly buying drugs from him!

What bizarre theories are in this thread?

The one thing that JM did absolutely correctly was to seek legal representation.

If the police told him that he was the last person to be seen with her and then insinuated - however indirectly - that he may have been involved in her disappearance, he should cease answering questions without legal counsel.

Any guy who is told that he is the last person to have been seen with her who did not have a cast iron alibi for his movements thereafter would be under suspicion and a black guy who is in that situation is in serious legal jeopardy trying to answer questions from the police without an attorney present. He should not submit to a polygraph without the advice of counsel.

He may be culpable - but OTOH, he may have nothing to do with her disappearance. In either event given the circumstances he needs competent legal representation.

Maybe she was looking for drugs. She sure seemed to be walking fast by herself like she was on a mission. Why was she by herself? Too many creepy men on this planet that want to harm women and children. That is what is so sad. Women would be so much less vulnerable if the did not drink alcohol. It puts them at risk for so many things. Men would be better off not drinking also. This right of passage college binge drinking is just human stupidity gone crazy. Who ever decided that binge drinking at college was a main stream great idea. So sad.
