UVA student missing

Why did the police say that they were originally looking for the wrong man -- a black man with a close-shaved head and goatee. Wasn't this description provided by the first creep? Was he trying to protect JM for some reason? The police wasted time giving out the wrong description.

Why did he flee Charlottesville? He looks creepy ... And acts guilty!

What exactly looks creepy about him? I think he looks perfectly nice. Is it the blackness? The dreads? Come on. He's being sought by police in a country where black people are persecuted and prosecuted and convicted more than whites. I'd be freaked out, too. Not saying he's not guilty, just that I don't think he looks creepy and that he may just be freaked out.

I am sure those dreads are gone by now.

If he did something to Hannah, don't you think he would have done that or fled in the entire WEEK in between Hannah's disappearance, and the police taking an interest in him?

It makes no sense. I think the police are getting tunnel vision and missing other information.

No. The guy that did nothing came forward immediately and talked to the police. Those that have things to hide run.

He also had a credible story- he did see Hannah go off with JM. But hey, Hannah could have declined a ride from JM and wandered back out on the street to find this guy waiting. His lurking in video was creepy, as someone else recently posted. Who knows if he was involved beyond what he already told police, but he had every reason to be proactive and go to police- he saw himself in video, so it was only a matter of time before they came looking for him, and he could truthfully say that he saw her with someone else.

Again, what looks like the obvious solution is probably the solution. The police are focused on JM because they have evidence they haven't yet released-- that's how criminal cases work.

The results of the forensic evidence should shine a lot of light on this. This guy has NOT been named as a suspect yet, and there is a reason for that. The police don't have enough evidence to do so yet. Which may be because they don't have it yet, or it may be because he didn't do it. We don't know yet. But then, I am not an expert in criminal justice, it sounds like you have a lot more knowledge/experience in how these cases "usually work." So forgive my ignorance!

That's my point. He didn't run immediately even though tons of people saw them together and recognized him.

He used to drive a cab, possibly how he was able to lure her. I hear that DNA results are coming today.......does anyone know if it's from his car, or clothing or something else?

The police had to go back to get more things from his apt, I find that a little odd. They either messed up the first time leaving him able to flee, or they are grasping at straws.

Bringing in Morgan Harrington into this is just a red herring. No one is saying that this guy who had drinks with Hannah is a mass murderer. That is just another version of the TODD defense. (the other dude did it)

Agreed. If JM did do something to Hannah, I think it's unlikely that the MH case is related.

I also want to know why she let a much older man, who presumably she didn't know, put his arms around her and take her into a bar. I've been VERY drunk and would still never have done that.

Love all these armchair criminal analysts informed solely by the CSI franchises. The police aren't going to publicize every step and detail of their investigation.

And yet, not enough evidence to arrest him?

I have done that. or at least, I was once really drunk and let a guy I'd never seen before put his arm around me and walk me part of the way home (I was with a friend). Had he said lets go in this bar and get a drink, or lets go into this diner and get something to eat, I might have said yes because it was a public place and would seem safe. The real question is why she got in his car afterwards and I can only guess that she was even drunker, scared about how to get home and this guy she had just spent 15 minutes hanging out with didn't seem like much of a stranger anymore. It doesn't seem strange to me at all.

Maybe just an eerie coincidence but another missing VA girl Samantha Clarke was last seen on Sept 13, 2010. She has not been found.

Hannah was last seen on the early morning of Sept 13, 2014.

I would have - and did on occasion - let a guy my own age (another college kid) put his arm around me. But a middle aged townie? No way. MH is not a particularly young looking 32, he looks older than that to me..

It seems there would be some insight as to how drunk she was, how he was acting toward her and treating her and vice versa, any snippets of conversation that were overheard, whether she seemed to willingly walk out with him, etc. Also, I'm wondering if they've talked to guy that was following the two of them in front of the jewelry store, which I believe has been determined to be a different person than the the guy who stepped into the doorway and started following her (they are wearing different clothes). That second follower was close enough that he should have been able to observe interactions and conversation between the two of them. And also, the group of guys that JM merged into after he crossed over the patio and began following Hannah…did he say anything to them or interact at all? Did they notice him running or walking fast to catch up to her?

And what about his roommates? Have they had in-depth interviews with them? They could ask them what time JM got home that Saturday morning, was he acting strange, cleaning his car, doing laundry, etc.

Wait - there was a 3rd guy in the Downtown Mall that was observed in the videos?

Why do we think Hannah was wandering by herself in at least a few of the videos (and running in the gas station one). Wonder if she was slipped something earlier in the night.

Yes, if you look at both videos carefully, the creepy guy in the Sal's video has shorts on. The guy following behind Hannah and JM in the jewelry store video has long pants and is paunchier.
